Two Finished Songs - One WIP [Progressive/Djent/Metal Inspired]
I don't know my genre's that great, but it's inspired by Djent (The Contortionist) and other styles of metal.
Critique and I'll give one right back! Thanks. Song 1 - Atmosphere Lost (Bar 1 - 119) Song 2 - Solar Assault (Bar 120 - 190) Song 3 - Drifting From The Sun (Bar 191 - Unfinished) Critique whichever you want. They're short, yeah, but I don't like songs getting stale.

I don't care if it's Djent or not. It's inspired by Djent and The Contortionist is my influence. Call it whatever you want it's music. Just critique that part please. :p

Okay. It sounds like one of the first things you've ever written. Its not great, by any means, and metalcore isn't exactly a good thing to aspire to these days, nothing really happens in that genre. The riffs are simple, too simple, dull, the leads dont fit melodically, the transitions are a bit too blunt, there's not really much pacing, the song just sort of 'happens', Not much to say about the drums, they just sort of fit the rhythm and dont do much else. I'd crit more, but the files gone and I didn't get to save it.

The problem with straight listening to the Contortionist is that they also have the problems I listed, but they rip off their peers without much thought to what they copy/paste, and then somehow they end up as the best thing since sliced fried bread. I can see in the tab that you're trying, but you need a more inspired approach, gather your most inspirational artists music (as much as possible) and have a good listen to it, think about melody over rhythm, then consider the effectiveness of the rhythm, if it actually makes you feel anything, rather than it just being there for the sake of existing (live to eat, not eat to live, if you get what I mean, try it with music). Think about the dynamic, the moments in between (ie, the silence) the notes and the percussion hits. Think about some complexity, music is also about ability and not about simply pounding the same chord over and over. Try some outside-of-your-comfortzone genres, like freeform jazz or trip-hop or maybe avante-garde black metal, as some silly examples or try some o' this:

I've tried quite a few different approaches to music, I just thought that this one would be it because thrash / death are getting very old and nobody's impressed unless it's a barrage of sweeps, technicality, and super stale straight forward fast drumming.
Just trying something new but I suppose I'll move on.
