after seeing the thread on modes i can play write my own stuff and sweep around but that got me thinking i can just put my hands on the damn thing and play.with that being said can someone give me a starting point that has been in the same situation.

Im sorry, but I dont understand what ur asking? Playing my own stuff was always the point for me. I think after modes I bought tabs. All the stuff I wanted to know how they knew type of thing. Of course, that was before I had my ears on. It helped turn them on though. Forgive me if im off base a little. Just guessing.

You are not ready to deal with modes. Start with intervals, the major and minor scales, and chords. Modes are beyond you're grasp right now.
