The general ART thread.

I know we've had one of these in the past, but I couldn't find an open one. So I decided to make a thread where everyone can share their drawings, paintings, graphic design work, or any other art that doesn't fall under another thread category.

To start this off, I'm not a very good artist nor do I draw often, but I spent two and half hours on this sketch today and I wanted to get some feedback on it.

It's called ADHD. I know it's not the most technically proficient work, but I'm pretty happy with how it came out. Definitely wanna see what other people think.

Looks like a typical doodle. Just that it wasn't drawn on college ruled paper.

I like it because it came out looking better than most of my sketchs and it captures how scattered I felt all week before and while I was drawing it perfectly. I know it's not great, but any tips or tricks to help me get better? Anything I did well or poorly? I really like drawing and I think I'm gonna try and start to do more than just silly sketches.

Alright I'll be more constructive with my feedback.

It looks like you didn't use an eraser much because although you shaded some parts, you can still see the outline under the shading of the objects behind it. For example: the sad face on the right with the cigar/blunt.

Overall I would get some drawing pencils if you're serious about learning to draw. Find some pencils 2H-4B and uses the H pencils to sketch lightly and the B ones for drawing darker. Don't draw any dark lines until you're satisfied.

If you want to make anything convincing you have to study from real life. Your eyeballs for instance are those drawn typically by people who don't use real human eyes as reference. I use to draw them like that too.

Draw what you see! Not what you think you see! Good luck!

Well I can't help that on, so I guess I'm shit out of luck. I'd really appreciate any serious criticism and tips. It's a fun hobby that I want to take further.

Thanks a lot man. This was just a mess around with a mechanical pencil. I wasn't really trying to draw anything realistically. I guess I'm gonna need to buy some drawing pencils. I'm excited to practice. What are some good subjects to start drawing for beginners?

I used to be pretty into drawing, but recently I've sort of just stopped. I guess I put more focus into writing and playing music instead.

Anyway, here's my most recent drawing from earlier this year:

Also, here's a concept sketch from a manga I was planning to write that... well... never got written:

And finally a quick little comic:

Items with basic shapes. Cups, boxes, etc. What my college professor would make us do is to draw them without looking at your paper. And just follow the shape of the items. But we were drawing complex things like seashells and ropes, tires, large water containers. Don't lift your pencil much either. It's an exercise to train your eye-hand coordination. And to look for basic shapes like triangles, circles, squares in everything you see.

Then later you get some kind of light source and start drawing the shadows and highlights that are caused by the items.

Just remember, don't try to draw with your mind yet. Really look at the things your are drawing to nail it down.

TS, I personally like that sketch a lot(being ADD myself),it's very original and quite complex. Perhaps you could work on your contrast a bit. Since your drawing involves a lot of linework, using a marker/pen would be a good choice . However ,as you develop technique do try to retain your creativity/freshness.

This was a result of that Flockdraw thread the other day, but here's my contribution to this thread, by catalan123 and I - mostly him as I can't draw so just did the basic outlines and minor stuff (though in my defence I only had a laptop trackpad at my disposal )
