Can anyone give me a few names of major label, major name bands/artists that actually play through Marshall stacks both live and on their album(s) ? (with very little processing)? I mean we all see the "wall o' Marshall" on stage for a lot of bands out there, but we all know that they are just fakes. This plus the death of Marshall himself recently has me thinking tonight on if anyone that made it huge with a marshall originally (e.g. to the level of Slash, James Hetfield/KirK Hammett, et cetera) actually still plays through a marshall today live on big gigs like the download festival, or what not?

That's just a bunch of obit. quotes and genearlly quotes that have been seen many times before lol, like Wylde's quote there on the end.
Doesn't necessarily mean they are still using Marshall amps... Last edited by Outside Octaves : 10-03-2012 at 11:06 PM. |

well we all know zakk wylde is more a fan of the rectifiers (M/B), so that rules him out... that's why I was saying what I was.
I'm just curious is all though. Thanks for the lead though, helpful to a degree. Part of this is my curiosity into what the marshall sound really is, but there's more to this quest of mine. |

I'm not sure if he counts as "Big" now but Ace Frehley still uses Marshalls.

Yngwie still uses Marshalls and he's like 400 pounds or something.

heh
Who is that with the fake Marshall wall? But either way... /rant Yea like I thought not a huge amount still use their amps, especially live or recording... practice is about the only time you hear big artists using Marshalls lol... for the most part anyways. Thing is, there was this thread about Marshall and his death, and how he changed everything. Honestly... Yea he was the king of loud, and RIP and all that... But Marshalls changed music... as in history man. They are rarely used now. And with good reason. They didn't have THE best tone ever. Hell, there's a story I heard that they had to put Randy Rhodes' Marshall in a closet, not for that particular kind of sound, but because his tone sucked... the kinda mosquito buzz Marshalls are famous for, lol. But then that's just a story I bet. Don't get me totally wrong, they can have good tone depending... but it's like orange amps. Not nessisarily the best amps, but it's what everybody had. (Again, they also can sound good but... there's better generally; especially when you've got that kind of money). Thus I'm wondering why they still have such legendary status. I guess once a legend always a legend? meh. So in the end, I kinda have a soft spot for some Marshall tones, but for the most part there's better out there. I understand that Marshall endorses artists, and vice versa... but man... Marshall just loses a lot of credit when you realize that practically noone plays with their equipment anymore, except a few major artists, and a million up and coming but never off of youtube'rs out there. Then all that credit that is left, goes out the door when you see them get stores to try and push that MG crap on newbies. rant\ |
