Guitar in case = dull strings
So I just changed the strings on my les paul, played for about an hour to stretch and break them in, put the guitar in its case to go to band practice and after about an hour of being in the case, the strings are no longer shiny and nice to play like they were an hour ago!
This happens every time I change strings and it really annoys me! does anyone know how to keep strings fresh when the guitar is in a case for a decent amount of time? I'm using a hardshell case that has a soft plush lining (The one that came with my les paul) Thanks people! |

Did the plush lining get wet at some point? I would think it's either moisture in the case, or the sweat and oil from your fingers is super corrosive which can be true of some people...

I'd say it's your fingers. Either wipe down your guitar after you play (including strings) or get string lubricant.

they're what I'm using! I'l look into string cleaner I think. Although when I leave my guitar on a stand the strings don't go dull for about two weeks, even with heavy usage. Is there any good way of getting moisture out of the case? it does feel somewhat damp on inspection. |

Are you wiping them down before you put it away? That's the key. And not just a quick swipe, it might take a few good swipes to get rid of the oils.
They have a device called the String Cleaner that cleans the top and bottom portion of the strings at the same time. I have corrosive sweat I guess, and wiping them down with a microfiber cloth really helps, so I recommend it to everyone.
