What amp thread? £400 budget
Budget? - £320-£420. (Anything over £420 is too much.)
Genres? Hendrix, SRV, ac/dc and the darkness. New or Used? - Used or new, what ever is better Home or Gig? -Home, but will be used for jam sessions, with a drummer Closest City? - Bristol, Uk Current Gear? - Epiphone les paul standard and a avt 50 (I may be able to sell it for £50) Doesn't need to be a combo, but the budget will be for both the head and cab. |

A used DSL combo (dsl401 I think?) would work pretty well for those genres.

looks like this could be the perfect amp for you:
http://www.valvepower.co.uk/18w_amp.htm you just have to look around for a cheap cab, a 1x12 would be absolutly enough! Last edited by ~Luke~ : 10-12-2012 at 03:12 PM. |

assuming that £50 from your avt 50 is added on to your budget. you might even get more than £50. I got like £165 (IIRC) for my avt 100. that was before the entire bottom fell out of the world economy, though.

Yes, i want some of the clean/slightly overdriven SRV tones, so cleans are important Also, i doubt i would be able to get much for the avt, they are being sold for around £100 from pre-owned shops around here, so around £50-£70 is probably the most i will get Last edited by mojachiee : 10-12-2012 at 04:12 PM. |

oh ok
still, assuming you can add £50 or so to your overall budget, that traynor would be under budget. I'm not sure there's much point in saving very little if it means you get something much worse (unless you're already struggling at the top end of your budget, of course).

I've never played the Traynor, but that's probably a good choice.

maybe the 2x12 jet city combo on thomann? I haven't tried it though- supposedly it has a bit less gain than the 50 watt head and its clean channel is actually clean.
I reckon the traynor would be better for what you want- it's hard to beat for the price, heck hard to beat even for a fair bit more money. but if you really can't stretch, i'm guessing the jet city would be better than nothing.

Around £800 new or around £300 used Is it worth getting over the Traynor for £300? Last edited by mojachiee : 10-13-2012 at 05:45 AM. |

Jet City 22 head and a 2x12 cab should be around that, would do everything you need

^ i reckon it'd be too modern-sounding, and also likely doesn't have much in the way of cleans- if its preamp is the same as the 50 watt head (which supposedly it is). that's why i thought the 2x12 50 watt combo might be a better idea (but i haven't tried it).
^^ yeah peavey stuff is dear here, unfortunately- it's the good value option in the USA, but not so much in europe. I assume you're wondering if you can get the ycv50b for £300 second-hand? I'm not sure- the big problem is, that thomann price is pretty good. there's no UK distributor for traynor now, but when there was, they were selling them for like £750 new. So s/h prices (unless a ton of people in the UK have been buying them from thomann and everyone knows the going rate now) might not be much less than thomann's new price.
