New Crash Cymbal

I'm looking to get a new crash cymbal - Maybe 16"-18" or so, and have about 100 to spend, though that can be a bit flexible. I generally play heavier stuff, but that's not 100% exclusive. Do you guys have any advice on what I should consider? I've currently got some 14" Zildjian hi-hats, and a 20" Zildjian ZBT ride. I had a Meinl 14" crash, but unfortunately that didn't make it (quoth a friend of mine, "that's what you get for not buying Zildjian").

I suspect you'll mention used - I've always got the feeling used cymbals, especially crashes, must be prone to cracking, given they've already most likely been hammered on by the last user. What are your thoughts and experiences with used cymbals?

Thanks!

If you insist on buying new - I would recommend either Istanbul XISTs or Sabian XS20s.
The XISTs are very good for if you're going to play loud, however they sound fairly dull at lower volumes (or at least, my traditional finish ones did).

I haven't actually had time to sit down and play XS20s long enough to make a clear decision, however they sounded good to me and I know a lot of people that would recommend them.

However, I think you can get a much better deal buying used cymbals from eBay etc.
I've bought a Sabian AAX-plosion crash (which sounds fantastic) off there for 120, and also my hihats and ride have come from ebay, and I've had no problems with any of them.

Hope at least some of this is useful

Most of my cymbals are used and still in perfect working order. The most expensive was my Sabian HHX crash which was 140 off Ebay. Trust me, go used and it'll be worth saving the money.
