British university tuition
Hello people of the pit,
next year I want to do a research master in GB so I can do a PhD after it. One of my teachers adviced me to look into the London School of Economics, but their research track would cost me 20.000 pounds (for year 1). How the hell do British students pay for this? I would be willing to loan, but my government doesn't have loans for more than 6000 per year. My second choices are going to Germany (free) or going to Exeter. I would however prefer London and be willing to loan a lot for it, so any input on how to get that money would be appreciated. NEW QUESTION: WHO ACTUALLY HAS BEEN IN A SITUATION LIKE THIS?

Check the website funderfinder to see if you can get a loan. If your grades at undergrad were good enough you can get a bursary from the university.
Otherwise, no chance. Postgraduate qualifications are for the middle classes in the UK. |

I didn't do a bachelor in the same subject so I don't know if I can get anything decent. Aren't there any government/private part loans that are popular?

I only pay £3000 a year, but that's probably because it's still an undergraduate course. 20k seems like a big leap though.

Are you from the EU? Because as far as I can see about £4k a year is normal for EU students, overseas seems to be about £10k. £20 seems to be an anomaly, maybe it's just that uni (London is a very expensive for fees, poll tax and rent).

EU yes. Currently doing my MSc in the Netherlands, but I need a MPhil or Research master to continue with a PhD. In the Netherlands that would cost me 18000 euros over 2 years, so I thought: might as well pay that bit extra and go to one of the best universities in the world. Because it wants all money in year 1, I have no way to get that though it seems.

Most people I know who did that usually got some sort of sponsorship from a city company they were going to end up working at or had been working at for a bit.
Or they got a personal loan/got their parents to get out a loan. Quote:

Well it's obvious that if you're going to a premiere university you'll be paying premium fees.  Your best bet is to try to get a sponsorship or bursary, or both, and then fill the rest with a loan.

Most people look into sponsorship from companies who pay towards (if not all) of the postgrad. |
