There are tons (literally, actual thousands of pounds) of quality amps for less than one thousand dollars. Especially if you include used--then, finding a high-quality amp for less than a thousand dollars goes from "easy enough, if you know what to look for" to "trivial." OT: It's definitely possible, if not super enjoyable. If you know any other people who play guitar, you could try asking around to see if somebody will loan you an amp--most of the guitarists I know (myself included) would be happy to let somebody use a spare amp to practice.

get yourself an epiphone es175, usable acoustic sound, mellow electric sound, and not too pricey.

Forget the electric guitar, what you really need is a new amp.

why don't you take it to your mother? make her feel guilty that she doesn't support you enough in your musical ambitions. then get a guitar and an amp with the money she'll surely give you.
that's what i did when i was your age

I think an electric guitar without an amp is less like a woman missing parts and more like a woman you can't see. Because you can still feel everything, you're just missing that extra sense that lets you know whats really going on.

I play my electric unplugged like 90% of the time anyway.
Go for it. Actually, I lost my guitar cable from like January till July of this year so I didn't play plugged into an amp all that time. ![]() Last edited by WCPhils : 10-08-2012 at 12:11 PM. |

You could always spend 50 bucks and get a USB interface. Then you can plug into your computer

Yeah that works too. There's also a few really nice free amp simulators available for download so you don't have to buy Amplitube or the like.

I played my bass for a good few months before I got an amp. It's not ideal but you can do it. I did jerry-rig an amp out of my stereo though. Just need an AUX cord and an adapter so it fits in the guitar's socket. You can't get distortion but at least you can hear it louder.

My advice is to save up and buy both at the same time. You want to spend money on a really decent amp. I got my Peavey for 400 bucks, and it's not bad, but it's starting to go out on me after only about 3 years. That's 3 years of sparse usage, as well.
Also, if you have a good amp, the Pit can't tell you that you need a new one.
