don't be dumb, listen to us. seriously. you obviously have very little experience and collectively and generally we seem to know a lot more than you. if you want shit with your budget, get new. if you want something that is going to fulfill your need for tone, buy used. thats where the mileage is.

used goes for half of new generally. you walk out of the shop with something new, and two days later it wont be worth half.
not all used gear is shitty, i think just about everything i currently own i bought used, and i have used Splawns, a VHT sig:X and a Mark IV i payed half or less for all of these amps than they went for new. solid and in perfect shape. i have gibsons and prestige ibanezs. i wouldn't have half the gear i owned if it was purchased new. drill this through your damn head. or as 311 said get an FM212 ![]()

New you get a limited warranty, but the price gap you pay between new and used will generally cover any repairs needed and then some anyway, IF you ever need to get it fixed at all. It may just be a matter of preference but I can't imagine EVER paying retail for a new amp unless there was no other choice. With the money you save going used you can get an amazing amp and cab and still have change left over. Buying new seems like the way to go when you're new for bragging rights, but trust me you'll regret it. |

No one's forcing you, you can get whatever you want no one can stop you, but we were all in that same situation once as well and I know from personal experience you'll wish you'd waited a bit longer and considered your options. The first bit of cash I came into I ran out and bought a brand new Peavey 6505+ and matching cab and I regret it hugely. There are so many other better options that can be had used. Just don't limit yourself is all we're saying. Last edited by AxSilentxLine : 10-09-2012 at 04:03 AM. |

Okay the best advice I can give is play as much as you can, then walk away, come back and play them again. Don't make impulse buys which to me is what it felt like you were going to do. |

Look at used AC15, AC30's and Peavey Classic+Valavekings.

JCM900 is the goto punk amp really and they'll do the rest as well. They pop up cheap all the time. A JCM2000 DSL of some type would do too but they are usually pricier. Although, the little DSL401's often come up cheap at times and they are a great little punk amp. When I say little, just little compared to the others, they are still plenty loud enough.
Peavey JSX/XXX/Ultra combos also pop up cheap at times so keep your eye open for those too. Although, being in the UK one of the Marshalls is probably more likely to come in within budget but you may have to be patient.

Good luck getting an Indie tone. IMO one of those with a pedal in front will get you fine punk. But it's OP's choice.

No. The Fender Frontman 100 is just an oversized shitty practice amp.

Man, the Frontman really won't do what you want.
I know you have a stigma about used, but it really is the best way to go, most people treat their amps with care so when you buy one used they run no better or worse than brand new. Hell, i got my Cornell almost half price! Seems pretty damn good to me. Don't rush in to buying an amp just cost you think 'ooh, 100W, that must mean it's better than my current amp!' Try some out, and keep an eye on Gumtree for the amps suggested. I might have missed it, but where abouts are you based? (in the UK right? which nearest city?)
