I've owned a Fender Frontman 212DSP.

Yeah, I started off as noob too and thought I could make my own decisions without listening to others. What a mistake.

Then I bought a Valveking new. That was the last amp I bought as new. Great amp really for what you are looking for but it needs a different speaker than stock.

A used Valveking or Classic 30 really are good suggestions.

Where are you located again?

Edit:
Nvmd - South Hampton. Doesn't matter - still good rec's

Guys, if he wants to buy new then let him. Somebody has to knock off that initial 40% for us so we can scoop up the real deals.

The only new amps I've ever owned I built myself.

Hey what now? That was a comment about buying used amps, not building them.

My first amp was about the same price as every other amp I've owned since... And it was a Marshall MG.

I could have had a used Blues Junior for the same price.

I bought my JCM900 used for way less than a new MG would have cost. New amps are for rich people with money to burn.

We lost some good men. Only time will tell if their sacrifice was in vain, or not.

milage for your dollar. look up a fender standard mexican strat. they sell for ~$500. go on craigslist and search for a mexican strat or MIM strat (made in mexico) and you will see that the cost less than $300, and many are just like they are new, or have a small scratch or slight blemish. i bought one for $200 in good shape.

look up a Fryette SIG:X http://www.musiciansfriend.com/ampl...guitar-amp-head

i bought mine for $1100, freshly tubed and flawless, not a scuff, not a scratch, hell even has better tubes in it now than new.

that is why buying used gear is better than new gear. i think you get the point.

we just won him over, let's not confuse him.

and i will say something about buying new gear: i own two amps that i bought new:

- 2008 Orange OR50H 40th Anniversary
- 2012 CEC Brigand (will be here soon )

i fully accepted that i was going to pay quite a bit for both of these amps, i weighed my options and desires and just accepted the fact that i was going to be hard pressed to find these amps used. the CEC is made by one dude and there is less than a dozen out there, and OR50H was a limited run (or so i thought at the time, they re-released it).

sometimes buying new is about the only option you have. that being said, i have about 10 used amps that are way better than the price i paid would indicate. if you are on a budget then it is generally your best bet to get something nice. and man, it is a buyers market for used gear right now.

I just realised that the combined price that I paid for my JCM900 combo and Abbey head is about half of what a Marshall MA head costs new. Both of them will kick an MA's arse to hell and back without raising a sweat - especially the Abbey.
Is used better than new? Well two superior amps for half the price of a piece of junk, what do you think?

There are times when buying new makes sense.

1.) You absolutely have to have the security of a manufacturers' warranty.
2.) You are buying a rare boutique or special order like Gumbi is saying (in which case you probably have the money anyway and it doesn't matter)
