I'm gonna start this guide for all the people (experts or noobs) in android, to use as a reference for rooting their devices.

I will start with the most popular ones, and if any other is requested i will do my best to post it.

The guides will be simplified with the steps shown in order.


MOST IMPORTANT NOTE: ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR DATA (SMS, Contacts, personal files) before starting.


ROOTING THE GALAXY S3 (9300)

Before we begin: Enable USB debugging from your settings menu

1. Make sure you have all the drivers ready, install samsung kies if you're not sure (while the S3 is plugged by USB)

2. after making sure all the drivers are installed, download the following

ROOT GALAXY S3


3.Put the phone in Download mode (while it's unplugged): (Hold volume down + home button, then press and hold power until download mode comes up. Then press the volume up key to continue).








4. Once you're in downloading mode, connect the S3 to the PC, and wait for other drivers to install
you should be able to see your phone as
Samsung Mobile USB CDC Composite Device

if you're not sure check your device manager




5. From the downloaded files, open ODIN.exe
if Odin shows you your phone in yellow it means it's all good



6. In Odin choose PDA then CF-Root-SGS3-v6.1.tar from the downloaded folder and click start



7. You will get the downloading on your phone



8. You're done now, congrats you're rooted with clockwork mod installed

it will show u green light for pass



9. The S3 will restart

10. You can now find SuperSU in your applications

HTC ONE X


Before you begin:

Download HTC Drivers http://binary100100.googlecode.com/...er3.0.0.007.exe

On your PC download the InsecureBootandRoot script, this is provided by the clever folks over at XDA developers.

Once it has downloaded, extract the contents to a new folder on your desktop.

NOTE: The device will reboot a couple of times during the process, and it may seem like nothing is happening, but rest assured that important stuff is going on. You must not interfere with your device at this crucial stage.

Once the changes have been made to your device it will reboot again and you will be left with a rooted smartphone.

1. Go to menu >Settings>Applications>Development> TICK USB debugging

2. Once you have done that, shut down your phone
3. Next, press the ‘volume down’ key and the ‘Power’ key at the same time

4. Once in the device’s ‘Bootloader’ mode, tap the ‘Power’ key again to access fastboot mode

5. Plug your phone into your PC with the USB cable that came with the device

6. On your PC, open the new folder you extracted the contents of the download to earlier and double click on the file marked ‘install-insecure-windows.bat’. This will then send the requisite commands to your device to root it.


HTC ONE X (ATT,ROGERS...)

1. Download and install the HTC mobile phone drivers. http://binary100100.googlecode.com/...er3.0.0.007.exe

2. Download the root.zip file. ROOT HTC ONE X CARRIER

3. Extract root.zip into a directory on your computer

4. Enable USB Debugging on your HTC One X. Settings >> Developer Options >>USB debugging (checked)

5. Plug your HTC One X into your computer via USB

6. Double click root.bat/root-linux.sh/root-mac.sh to run the script.

7. Congratulations! Your device will reboot a number of times and then you will have full root access.

LG Optimus 4X HD (O4X P880)




1. Install the LG USB Driver http://www.lg-phones.org/lg-optimus...usb-driver.html
2. Download and extract the Root kit (o4xr.zip) to "C:\o4xr' Optimus 4xhd
3. Download and copy "IS11LG_SystemBackupTest.signed.apk" to your phone Backuptest
4. On your phone, go to "Settings -> Security" and make sure "Unknown Sources" is TICKED
5. Go to "Settings -> Developer options" and make sure "USB debugging" is TICKED
6. Install "IS11LG_SystemBackupTest.signed.apk (put it in your Sd card and run it from your phone to install
7. Open the "SystemBackupTest" app you just installed.
8. Hold the power button and choose "Power off and restart"
9. When you can see the lock screen, you may notice that the phone is running very slowly, this is normal.
10. Connect your phone via USB to your computer.
11. Make sure the phone is in "Charging Only" mode.
12. Open a command prompt (may need admin privelages, right click, run as administrator)
13. Type without quotes "cd C:\o4xr" and press enter.
14. Type without quotes "root" and press enter.
15. Wait while the script runs, and the phone will reboot automatically.
16. You should then see the command prompt "C:\o4xr>"
17. Uninstall the "SystemBackupTest" app on your phone. (Do NOT re-open it, or you will need to run the script again).
18. On your phone, open up Google Play Store and search for "SuperSU"
19. Update SuperSU then open it.
20. Press OK to update the SU binary.
21. You now have root and can safely restore the "Unknown Sources" and "USB debugging" settings back to how you had them!

You can do a lot. For example, Sprint charges you about 30 bucks extra to be able to use your phone as an internet hotspot for your computer. Rooting your phone allows you to do that for free.

Motorola Droid RAZR


1. Install motorola drivers http://www.mymotocast.com/download/MDM?platform=windows

2.Download and unzip the package
DROIDRAZR QUICK ROOT
3. Enable Unknown Sources (Config > Security > Unknown Sources)
4. Enable USB Debug (Config > Developer Options > USB debug)
5. Enable Mock Locations (Config > Developer Options > Mock Location)

To make sure the drivers are installed, you should check your device manager after applying steps 2,3,4,5




6. Connect the phone to your PC as Media Sync - MTP (Change it after connect you phone to PC in Config > Storage > Media Sync)
7. Run the script (Double click on .bat file from PC)
8. Congrats you are rooted


ADDITIONAL:

After you have rooted, if you ever decide to unroot, go to your superSU application that will be installed with the package above and select unroot



No more root, warranty is now intact
