Help me fix my amp or pick a new one :(

Hi Guys
I've got a a Yamaha THR 10 and I really do love the thing but it's started buzzing on the clean channels or when ever I roll down the gain. It sounds like speakers buzzing like when you play to hard and it's shaking the speakers a lot. I've tried thinner strings I've got a new cable but i can't get rid of the buzzing even when i play lightly and turn nearly everything down it keeps buzzing. Because right now I cant be bothered with it i cant get a clean tone at all and I'm thinking of just packing it in and getting a Blackstar or Jet City. If you have any ideas how to get rid of the buzzing please tell me if not suggest some new amps max budget 300 for a combo. Thanks

The problem is Post #3 does not follow the advice of Post #2.

But seriously, when a 10w starter pack amp starts buzzing like that it is time to say goodbye. The time and money it would take to diagnose and fix it is not worth it. The time, energy and server space to make and respond to this thread has already eaten through any return on investment you may have had. Get a new amp man. You'll thank us later.

My blind advice without knowing more is to buy as much Peavey Vypyr as you can afford.

Because it's Solid State, repairs are going to be much more difficult. Your best bet is to take it to a tech, although that will probably cost you more than that amp is worth. You're better off with a new amp, but you need to give us the information listed in the link that Guitarbaddie posted.

Complete stab in the dark here but couldn't you get in touch with Yamaha and have it fixed under warranty. I forget when they came out but surely it would be under warranty still? I would hope that Yamaha would have decent customer service too.

If you do have to get something new then the Peavey Vypyr is awesome. I am looking forward to trying the Blackstar ID series too. Tube based: Blackstar HT20 may be in budget if you find a used one, else HT5 will certainly be.

Well, the JCA2212C from Jet City might be a good option. You can probably find one used in your budget. If you could save up a little more, you could get a better setup, but that would work pretty decent. You might have to pick up something like a DigiTech Bad Monkey for a boost to get into heavier territory, but other than that, it should cover most of what you want.

Anyone know what VHT amps are like? I might save up a bit more looking at the kind of amps you can get for just a bit more money.

I have no experience with VHT. May I ask why they have peaked your interest?

Also, I second the DSL401 and Vypyr Tube. I don't know why I skipped those in my suggestions

Probabaly the price

They're damn fine amps, sound great, obviously the valves aren't the best because they're chinese but the ones in mine didn't sound horrible, they do really open up with a nice set of JJs in though.

Yeah the VHT were in the same price or at least the B stock ones but I'd be willing to buy a new one if they were good. Plus are they not connected with Fryette amps so I assume they're designed to be good amps but I will check if my amp is repairable this weekend.

Fryette bought VHT.

Which amp are you looking at specifically?

Do you have a new budget?
