ACOUSTIC - Jillard Guitars

That's right ladies and gentleman, I Jason Jillard am building an acoustic guitar!

learning under the amazing Garren of Loucin Guitar Co in Oakville Ontario. The stuff that comes out of his shop is amazing. Building guitars for people anywhere from the session guitarist Phil X, all the way up to a certain guitarist known as Zakk Wylde.

So im am very excited to bring you guys updates on this adventure. i will try to document it as best i can. My other electric builds will be ongoing during this, so check out my other threads as they arise.

Specs:

Wenge Back and Sides
Englemann Spruce Top
mahogany neck
Ebony fretboard
Curly Maple Binding + accents
Ebony Bridge

lets get on to some pictures!

Arrival At Loucin Guitar Co.

Here is shown my first side bent, and my back glued, witch i had doen the other day.

then i glued up the top once again using this amazingly simple, tried and true jig.

Bringing the first side out of the bending jig

it all went nicely, no cracks or splinters.

marking the 2nd side for Loucin's 'soft scoop' style cutaway

and cutting it off

here i am bending the 2nd side

Its not? looks pretty much exactly the same. Unless that upper part is going to be carved to be lower. I assumed it was just going to be the lower part.

I've played a Loucin once and it was the best acoustic to have ever sat in my lap. Sang like I didn't know a guitar could.

yes, the top right corner gets scoop carved down.. this is an updated version of the headstock from Said the whale's guitar build that i'm doing.

and even if it wasn't.. do a side by side and there still pretty different.

I was planning a 24.75"-25.5" fan on my rhythm tele with the perpendicular at the 5th or 6th for the best comfort while chording, that gives only a 15mm difference at the bridge (which most importantly I can manage on the 6 saddle ashtray bridge I'll be using)

I chose the scales and perpendicular placement based on my arm angle while playing rhythm.

Not really got a point as I haven't built it yet to vouch for it, just sharing, as you were thinking about it as food for your thought :p

No! Please, straight frets.. a fanned acoustic is just weird.

the lower side is all bent and looking pretty

and then i went and bent the soft scoop style cutaway piece

using this mold, we cut the sides to length
