Starting to look for a new amp!
Alrighty, so I have started looking for a new amp to replace my Peavy Vypyr eventually. I am not in a hurry so I have a lot of time to browse around and really look for something good.
My budget is about $600-$700 but I might be able to go up to $800 I play a lot of metal but not any brutal drop tuning stuff (lowest I go is like drop D) I also play a lot of classic rock, blues, and occasionally some jazz (ignore username) guitars in signature if that makes a difference. I played a Blackstar HT-40 that sounded alright but didn't play it enough to get a good idea of what it could do. Just give some suggestions that you guys or girls or whatever the hell you are think would work. My local shop has a ton of amps so I can most likely test them out. Thanks homies ![]()

Are you willing to go used? Also what's your closest major city if you are willing to go used? If you can stretch to $800 you could find some super nice deals depending on where you live.
As a starter I'd take a look at: Peavey Classic 50 2x12 + an overdrive for metal. Carvin V3 Vypyr Tube 60 (if you like your Vypyr sounds, these are a huge improvement) Mesa MkIV. Apparently some people on here have scored one of these for sub $1k, but you might have to be a little patient on that one. I dunno though, it depends if you want to go used and where you are.

Yeah sure I could go used. The biggest and closest city is El Paso, Texas and I could probably find something in Phoenix too since a family member lives there.

El Paso:

Good deal on this) http://phoenix.craigslist.org/cph/msg/3224884283.html (Another XXX head) http://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/msg/3272619666.html (5150 2x12) http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/msg/3206363159.html (6505 with an egnater 412, maybe not so much for blues and jazz but great for rock and metal) http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/msg/3321398583.html (Mesa MkIV, bit out of budget but you might be able to talk him down and would be worth saving the little extra for) http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/msg/3238551252.html (Carvin Legacy II) http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/msg/3219157832.html (Another legacy II) Start here. Try some out and see what you think. It's hard getting something that'll cover a huge amount of styles for that budget.

Could you give us a few bands in specific of types of metal you play?
A 5150 sounds pretty solid for what you want, but a XXX or MkIV might be a little bit better I think.

$875 for my long head. i was watching for a week or two and one popped up. great amp, even freshly tubed. XXX and JSX would do well. IMO the JSX sounds better out of the two. you don't want a 6505/5150 maybe you could get lucky and find a mini 5150III. they go for a grand new, but i am sure there are some for sale somewhere, maybe even $800 (which is realistic)

I'd say the Mesa Mark IV sounds like your best bet if you can save up a hundred more or so.
