The moment when you dominated all the other chao in the race after grinding for hours was priceless.

I think I'll forever have the pumpkin hill theme stuck in my head after all dem skeledogs.

I can't pick up a guitar without playing the second riff from that. The one from the chorus of the full version of the song, right at 0:17.

I mean hell, those games had a city laid to waste by a giant monster, and half the moon getting blown up, respectively. They seemed a little grittier, but still felt like Sonic. Also, they were story driven, and the stories were actually decent.

And of course all the Genesis games were amazing. I love Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Just everything about that game is amazing.

Oh, and as ridiculous as it may sound, I can honestly say the Sonic Adventure soundtrack is one of the main reasons I play guitar today. I mean, just listen to this shit.

Just plain badass riffs and soloing.

Let's just ignore that Sonic has even existed over the last ten years and just admit that Sonic in his first few iterations are better than almost any other side scroller character ever.

And at the same time Shadow the Hedgehog tried way too hard to be dark and 'mature' while still being Sonic and it just didn't work.

Damn right, almost.

Edit: Ehh... I could name about 3-4 side scroller characters I put on equal or higher level than Sonic.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles, where you double stacked the cartridges together in your Genesis. You had Super Chaos Emeralds that gave you Hyper Sonic, Hyper Knuckles or Super Tails. Sega never really lived up to delivering that kind of content for a Sonic game since then. Try playing Sonic 3 & Knuckles all the way through, it's a long game together. I haven't touched a Sonic game since Dreamcast, the Genesis games are still by far my favorite.

Yeah, that's where they took it too far. I guess after that game didn't do as well as they'd hope, they got scared away from making Sonic games "gritty".

I mean, I played Generations and I loved the gameplay, but the atmosphere was just too cheery. I mean, even the original Genesis Sonic games had that element of darkness, at least in my opinion.

Also, the cutscene dialogue in Generations was terrible. There were so many cringe-worthy moments.

At this point that's just being true to the series. I just replayed SA2 this summer... that voice acting is AWFUL. I haven't played many of the other recent games (I did have the displeasure of being exposed to Sonic 06), but I hear they're all the same way.

Not ridiculous at all. The SA2 soundtrack was probably the beginning of me getting into rock music. I actually HAD the soundtrack on CD and everything.

Metal Harbor's theme is still SO sick.

Yeah, but they brought back memories.

A group of my friends and I playing VS mode:

"Hey, let's do jewel hunt!!!"

*everyone groans*

"Oh come on, we NEVER do jewel hunt!"

*we do it once*

"That sucked. Let's just race."

Yeah that was the major downside to A2, too many jewel hunting levels. It sucks that they gave Knuckles such a tedious task, since he is the mots badass character since his creation besides Shadow.

Jun Senoue is a genius. He can go from thrashy to funky to anything and it's just all awesome.

Also I have a cover of Green Forest from SA2 on my profile
everyone should check it out

Yeah, the voice acting was always lovably terrible like that.

I find the lack of Crush 40 in here disturbing.

Crush 40 and Jun Senoue are half the reason the SA games were so good.
