I stopped feeling depression after my teenage years, now anxiety has taken its place. I'd love to switch back

Anxiety comes from excessive apprehension and depression comes from complete and utter apathy for anything and everything. Although they seem like polar opposites, depression very often comes from anxiety and anxiety comes from depression, so the two go hand-in-hand.

What the real wish is, is to not have either.

CBT is a great tool for anxiety + depression

you could also try self-hypnosis in addition to it. check out double induction by hypnotica.

I think this would be the best first course of action if you have had persistent depression lasting longer than 2 weeks.

I know how you feel. I've fallen pretty far since moving here. Exercise is definitely a big helper, it's about the only thing that gets me through some days.

my situation is like the opposite of yours. I spent a lot of my early teens to mid teens having so much anxiety that now that I think back on it I don't know how I handled it. was pretty much a mute for like 3 years, couldn't talk to anyone. it still gets me every now and again but they're in the form of panic attacks now. my medication doesn't really help with my depression but now that I'm on it my whole body feels at ease and not like I'm living on the edge every second of my life.

I strongly recommend this. This is a confidence-building hypnotic session made for me by Maria, my hypnotherapist. It has absolutely changed my life.

How do you know when you're actually depressed, rather than just feeling down?

When the mood persists for over 2 weeks and you begin to show other symptoms of depression, such as losing interest in things you used to enjoy for example.

Go to your GP.
I got diagnosed with clinical depression (No shit, have any of you seen my posts here over the last two years?). My GP is really awesome and understanding, and has helped me a lot. He said it was really smart to come in because at this point, my serotonin levels were so low there was nothing I really could have done to bring them back up again myself. Now I'm on medication and have a psychiatrist lined up and I'm feeling a fair bit better.

If you're unsure if you're really depressed, or just feeling down, just go anyway. You're not wasting anyone's time, that's what they're there for, and if it is depression, you did something about it early.
