I think the last time I discovered a new band that I liked was Last Chance To Reason right before their last album. So, yeah, it's pretty hard, and I'm pretty picky.

Not at all. In fact, I'm finding it easier than ever before.

I felt like I was in such a music rut for ages until I started loving musical theatre at the end of last year. And now that it's starting to die down again I just said **** it and went for something I'd never usually listen to and presto, I'm now in love with Childish Gambino. I think it's more about moving outside of your boundaries tbh

You should listen to BTBAM's Color album.

Really opened up my mind to metalcore and just BTBAM in general.

this, every couple of years I'll poke my head out to see what's happening "currently", realise its still crap and then I'll go back to listening to the same stuff I have been for years without getting sick of it.

EDIT:^more sounds like shit than boring to me.

Yeah man. Currently I'm listening a lot to stuff from Steven Wilson and trying to find some of his influences. There are no new bands that appeal to me though. It's a shame. I hoped I would like the new Muse album so I would have more to listen to.

to be fair, if you want to enjoy modern music, listening to muse is just a terrible idea.

The way I tend to find bands I like is either:

-Looking up the influences of a band I already like. I used to spend a lot of time on Wikipedia just reading up on bands I like, and often a lot of my favourite bands would share common influences who I hadn't listened to before.

-If I hear a band mentioned a couple times or more, i'll give 'em a listen (if you're 'paranoid' about stealing music, you can't get arrested for streaming tunes on youtube, as far as I know. There's also a couple bands that i'm now really into, that I only heard of through youtube comments of songs i'd recently checked out where people said "this band reminds me of [x band]").

-Stuff like last.fm (completely free) which keeps track of what you listen to and then can recommend stuff you might like based on it. (similarly, I hear about Spotify and Pandora a lot and know they're vaguely similar, but haven't used Spotify in a billion years and can't remember anything I heard about Pandora, so... yeah).

Quoted because everyone else was doing it. Just kidding It's kind of both fascinating and annoying that there's a load of bands out there i'd absolutely love but won't find them.

I think most people go through phases of that at different points. I did last year but the turning point was getting Spotify Premium, and since then I've been discovering and enjoying more new music than ever. Worth a go.

Well no, but I try to listen to a lot, hard to do of course. And I'm finding a lot that interests me still.
