WGS G12C or G12C/S for Hot Rod Deluxe?
I have a Hot Rod Deluxe and want to replace the speaker. It's an older model, from 2002. I've been impressed with a few demos from Warehouse Guitar Speakers. I'm currently considering two speakers the G12C and the G12C/S.
My impression is the G12C/S is warmer and I want a more "chimey" tone, however the Hot Rod Deluxe is a bit brittle in the high end so maybe the warmer G12C/S would be a better fit. What do you think? |

i'd be interested to hear the differences, too- i haven't tried either. All i know is what you've heard- the C/S is meant to be a bit warmer.
have you tried emailing wgs? normally speaker companies are pretty good when you email them. Eminence probably has a bunch of models which might help tame the brittle high end of the HRD, too- cannabis rex (haven't tried that one), red white and blues and texas heat spring to mind. Just to give you some other options. the ones i have tried I haven't tried in an HRD, though. if you want more "chime", though, those ones might be overkill. I actually really like the legend 1258 for a vintage american tone, but supposedly the stock speaker in the HRD is pretty close to it (I doubt it's as good, but i could be wrong). And it's probably on the brighter end of things. it is pretty good value, though (at least here in the UK). and then you have weber and the like, too. No experience with them, unfortunately.

Surprisingly V30s are supposed to sound good in those amps. Fender has even made a few limited runs of them with v30s. If you could try to play your amp through different cabs with different speakers that might give you a better idea of what you're after.

ewww no, i thought the hrd i tried with the v30 didn't sound that great. It improved the od channel from "terrible" to "mediocre", but it completely killed the cleans.
![]() but i agree regarding trying to get to try that amp with different speakers.

You guys think Nocaster pickups would be too bright in my tele with this speaker and maybe should go for the Texas Specials which are hotter?

it's one of those things that it's very hard to say until you try it, unfortunately.
plus i haven't tried either of those pickups ![]() i would only change one thing at a time, though, if you can thole (that's sort of a "do as i say, not as i do" kind of suggestion ). you can really hone in on what you want each upgrade to do if you do it that way.

I haven't tried either of these speakers, but I'm starting to consider the G12C/S for a cab I'm soon going to get built for my coupe.
I have a cannabis rex in my coupe right now, and I'm absolutely in love with it! It took all of the harsh high end treble off, while adding a tight, smooth bottom end. My coupe's rhythm channel is voiced very similar to a fender blackface. I personally believe that it rivals any fender that I've played, especially since I dropped the rex in her . If you're not sold on the WGS, I would strongly recommend considering the rex for your HR!
