tube replacements for vox ac4tv
Well i love the way this amp is sounding so far but for this project i'm working on, the tones just aren't working well for it. The amp has a nice crunchy and biting top end and can get dead on Sabbath or Zeppelin tones, but i'm after a warmer 70's prog sound like Magma. My Tweaker 40 is back in the states and this amp is the only one I've got now. So I'm wondering what tubes would eliminate the harshness of the top end and provide a smooth creamy upper midrange while still having clear top end content and a nice mild driven sound?
If it helps I have also experimented with many mic positions and amp settings to no avail. My current mic position is about three or 4 inches from the speaker, between the edge and the cone but pointing at the cone. It has me close but not pointed at the cone i have less note definition but pointed at the cone i have note definition but too crunchy sounding.

http://www.dougstubes.com/power-tub...uby-el84cz.html That bottom one is also a JJ but tested by Ruby. The ECC83S will make the biggest difference to your tone. It should do exactly what you want.

If you want to go NOS, RFT's are supposed to be darker/warmer sounding. I put them in my AC30 for the same reason as you before (as recommended by the gentlemen who has posted above me)
