So I have been using ernie ball skinny top heavy bottom strings on my Asm Pro (link to look at it http://www.guitarcenter.com/B-C--Ri...093-i1503547.gc) for drop c and I was thinking I might want to switch to a thicker gauge like the beefy slinkys but I just recently put them on another one my guitars (I was putting this one in drop d) and I had to add another spring to it. I dont really want to add another to my Asm Pro because I dont know if it will make my strings harder to play. I like to play alot of post-hardcore music and shredder stuff so maybe even increasing the gauge wont be a good idea but heres my guitars neck Scale: 25 1/2". Any help is appreciated!!

there is a couple different approaches to go. you can just 'wing it', or you can be very technical and maintain tension on the guitar's neck.

that will tell you how exchange stings for the same tension. you can use it as a guideline for switching 'stock' strings sets as well.

If you think its not enough tension I would go with dunlop heavy core heaviest. They're 10-52. But specifically made to give you good tension in drop c (: I really like them.

most people i have heard of doing drop C generally do a 12 set.

I know (: but they're not a typical 10-52 set. They have a really thick core so you get a lot more tension than a regular 10-52 such as skinny top heavy bottoms. They're basically for people who want more tension but don't want like a 54 or 60 set.

I don't see why the 10-52 set is that bad for you. A lot of bands use those gauges for that tuning, or something similar. i know Alexi from Children of Bodom uses 10-56, which isn't that much of a difference.

i have been in love lately with the dunlop heavy core 12-54. on a 26" scale neck they are the perfect tesnion for me in drop c

I used to use 12-60 for Drop C on my 25.5" H. I now use 11-56. I like both, the 11s give me a little more bending leeway which is nice.

i have 11's in C#std and they flop like spaghetti. i would recommend 11's at minimum with a bigger 6th string. 12's for Dstd or drop C. i realize that i have mine tuned lower, but mine are nowhere usable without the tail piece cranked down a long way and high action. when it needs strings i am going to get a new nut cut and use 13's.

I found Ernie Ball Not Even Slinky's (12-56) to be great for Drop C.

Not sure about all the exact tension specs, but they played great on a PRS Single Cut.

I use the Daddario 10-52 on my hellraiser for Drop C anything lower an I use .11's but that's just my preference.
