Yes a dimarzio super distortion will work fine for metal music. But they are a pickup that was designed in the 1970's so be aware that they will have an older style metal tone to them.

If you like modern metal the Dimarzio Crunch Lab would be a better pickup to look at.

Hell, yes you can play metal on a guitar loaded with DiMarzio Super Distortion pickups! That pickup was the original "hot aftermarket guitar pickup, and a lot of people still use them:

It hasn't been around for more than thirty years for nothing.

If you're into Iron Madien, Dave Murray uses a Super Distortion in his Signature Strat:

The Dimarzio SD is an awesome bridge pickup. However, go with something more mellow in the neck, like a Paf Pro.

Cool little amp!

The Super Distortions are cool but they aren't that common tight metal pickup. They have a sizzle in the top end while the bass is quite fat sounding. Very compressed pickup. Reminds me of KISS.

No, super distortions are designed for jazz and ultra clear cleans.

English isn't his first language so obviously he didn't get the correlation.

I play alot of maiden and i do fine with Super Distortion. The only thing i would suggest would be not to coil tap it in the bridge position (doesnt sound too great!)
