Hi! I'm looking to buy a new guitar amplifier.
Some info:
Budget: I've got ~2000$ ATM, but it's suppose to be enough for probably a new cab aswell.
Current Gear: Head: MG100HFX (The reason I'm looking for a new one )
Cab: MG412A (Looking for new one aswell)
Location: Sweden (Gotherburg)
Looking For: I play lead guitar in a band. We just started out and it's my first. We like Foo Fighters and Green Day alot, but we would love to be able to play everything from Foo to Metallica/Iron Maiden, if you know what I mean.
My guitar: An LTD EC-50, but I might buy a new one.. Anyway it's my current one.

Also, could someone state the difference between the JMP 2204 and the JCM 800 2204?

As people were saying, you could easily get the tones you want getting both a new amp and guitar with $2000.

A Laney GH sounds perfect for what you want.

I've heard that lanye copies Marshall.. Is it a good copy? I really want that punchy brittish sound that a marshall can deliver.

We've already had this discussion.

The JMP and the JCM800 (vertical inputs) have the same circuitry. However, the JMP had some superior components, most notably the signal caps.
Now having said this - when people compare the two and say the JMP is a better sounding amp they rarely take into account the tubes that they are running and that will account for far greater variance than things like the caps.
One other difference is the impedance selector. The JMP had the infamous jumper style selector and the JCM had a proper switch.

Now when we get to the horizontal input JCM800 2204 there are more differences. The horizontal ones had pcb mounted tube sockets and pots whereas the vertical has chassis mounted ones. Chassis mounted stuff is more reliable and far easier to replace.
The horizontals also had inferior transformers and other components and were basically the victim of cost cutting.

So in order of goodness JMP > JCM800 vertical > JCM800 horizontal but the differences aren't that great.


The Laney isn't exactly a copy, it's similar. However, even if it was a copy that doesn't mean a lot. A Splawn is based on a marshall and it kicks Marshall's arse.
A GH100/50 would be a good choice; a VH100R even better.

Yeah, my local music store just set up a room full of amplifiers.. I tried out (recommended after what I said I was out after) the JVM 2000. Couldn't quite turn it up though but at 2-3 on master volume it sounded waaay better than my shitty mg100fx.

I assume you mean JCM 2000, but how much is that going for at your local shop? If you like the sound of that, you might as well get it.

Btw, the Laneys sound massively better once you replace the tubes with something good - like 99% of all new amps - including new Marshalls.

There's none for sale (second hand), but if I'll buy it new, since it's not very expensive, is it better to buy an amp B-stock than brand new?

Dual Rectifier? They're often considered a high-gain amplifier, but I love mine for Foo Fighters kind of rock.

If you can find a B-stock one then yes, it's always better if you can get something cheaper. But really... If you have the money to buy a new one and can't find good deals for used ones (I mean, used gear should cost much less than new, at least 25% off the original price unless it's something people consider "vintage", otherwise it's not a good deal and I would rather buy it new) then why not a new one. They will most likely have less issues and you get warranty and all. Also B-stock ones aren't really that much cheaper. So if you can't find a B-stock one, it's not the end of the world. I would buy new. There's nothing wrong in buying new, now I feel like people are jumping on the "buy used" bandwagon. But try to get it as cheap as you can. You can always ask if they could lower the price for you because the stores want to sell their stuff and they won't lose anything if they sell it for a bit cheaper. Actually they try to do everything to sell it.

The detail I did miss out; When the horizontals came out they removed one filter cap to save money. A lot of guys put it back in and even go bigger again.

Tbh. Most of these amps that you will buy used have had some work done to them. Every tech has his mod to fix some design flaw that he does as a matter of course. By now it'd be hard to find one that hasn't been tweaked in some way.

I don't know pricing in Sweden, but I live in Europe (where Mesa generally is more expensive) and I got mine easily for the equivalent of 2000 USD. Used, of course.
