I was just playing my strat and my long trem are was really egging me on. I thought it would make for an interesting topic to see things you guys really dislike about your guitars.
Also, whenever I lean my guitar against something and it falls over, I hate that! Any other thoughts |

Middle single coils, for some reason I always hit them with my pick.
Headstocks with an odd number of tuners on each side, like two on one side and four on the other. For music instead of the guitar itself, 'solos' that are just whammy wankery. I get it, it counts as a solo, but seriously, do more then 5 divebombs

I think many many moons ago there was a thread like this. But, i very well may be wrong.
I hate when people pick up my guitar and start wailing on the strings just making noise and breaking strings. Also, when my 3 year old niece had my Special II on the ground and she was jumping on the neck. I guess I was too vague saying my niece and nephew could play with that one but not my others. lol. |

Humbucker rings. I think they generally look cheap, and even the nicer ones(wood, gold, ect.) look bad because they crowd that area. But I've always had a "less is more" attitude towards guitars.
Bulky neck heels. Even the slanted square heels are too bulky for me. I see no reason not to round it and use recessed screws, especially on a 24 fret guitar. Flush-mount output jacks. They always go bad on me after just a few years, they are expensive, and they can't be fixed. Being recessed isn't worth it. Last edited by W4RP1G : 10-30-2012 at 01:47 AM. |

Bad design decisions getting past the prototyping stage and going into a production model. Good thing I don't have to put up with it anymore. An instrument I kinda wish I never had. Also has those terrible pickup rings and a big square neck joint. :P

- Dot inlays. How boring.
- Creme binding. Most of the time, pure white would like MUCH better. In my opinion. - Bad placement of the pickup switch. |

Volume knob too close to the bridge, makes me accidentally turn it with my pinkie. Also, black guitars, I need colours. And the way the cord gets twisted over time.

Similarly, when you like the look but not the sound or feel of the guitar.

Bad fret levelling and poor intonation.
Necks that are too thin. Guitars that are unbalanced. Chunky neck heels. Overly gaudy tops on guitars. Floyds w/ EMG's. Not because i don't like them but that they're WAAAY too common. Schecters. Partly because of the previous point but mostly because they're overpriced. Deans. Overpriced garbage. Pickup rings are fine though.

My guitar in general, always wanted a off-set V and loved it at first, but I`m really pretty tired of it.
Feels way to light Floyd rose (don`t know why I keep buying guitars with them, I do not like them.) its to long to fit on a guitar stand to long to sit and play with out hanging off the edge of what I`m sitting on and couple of other things I can`t think of right now.

The only thing I really don't like is dot inlays, which are a total deal breaker for me except on stuff like Strats.

I think dots look great some some guitars, usually guitars that have always had dots for inlays.

I hate badly made guitars that fall apart really easily, I also hate most guitars built for metal, but that's just because I don't play it.

I actually like them on Maple like a Strat or a Kramer but I don't like Rosewood Strats. I just feel they take away from the visual impact of something like a King V by having no visual impact. Also I think that because when I was new to buying guitars I noticed manufacturers put them on their cheapest guitars to cut cost, I associate them with cheap guitars which makes me think they look cheap. I have nothing against cheap guitars but if I went all out on a guitar I'd want it to look like I'd gone all out. An example is the Vai Jem, as you move up the models you get more vine and less dots. |

I think that dot inlays have their own functional aspect more than anything else. It gives off the impression fo a guitar that is purely function over form and depending on what you look for in a guitar, dots may be desirable on pretty much any guitar.

-Breaking strings. Always puts me on a downer. Urgh...
-Toggle switch placement. On my Les Paul I always used to hit it on my upstroke, on my Mustang I hit it on my downstroke. I've just taken the black cap off the switch on my Mustang now. -Breaking strings.... (again lol)
