George Lucas is still on as a creative consultant, but he has otherwise relinquished creative control of the Star Wars universe. I don't see this as a bad thing.
Also, give Episode VII to Whedon. |

My money's on it being based on either the time between the old and new trilogies, or the Clone Wars again because Lucas is so in love with that period

Well, the story is all there. It's all good. Even if they did a prequel to the prequels (Xanatos, anyone?) they still have a lot of awesome material the work with. The question is if they can take the awesome material and not make it stupid.
