Good luck, be patient and don't just settle on an amp because you don't like yours.

I would stay away from the JCM900 personally. They're pretty good for punk and hardcore punk, but not so great for anything else. You can mod it to make it better, but really, you could also just go with a better option.

Define a better option.
I've searched high and low for a better option, unless I can get a used DSL 2000 or TH30, I'm not sure what else would work.

edit: hang on I wasn't finished
Just an idea I thought I'd throw in, not sure if you'll be able to find one: Rivera Knucklehead. Mick Thompson uses them and they have absolutely awesome cleans. well he has a sig model but I'm sure it's not too different. they also go for around $800 US. there's also the 100 watt which may be easier to find I've only played one once and I loved it.Last edited by ihartfood : 11-05-2012 at 10:14 PM. |

the way I see it, it may be worth a trip.
calculate how much the gas will cost, or "rent" one (buy it and return it if you don't like it) from L&M or Musicians Friend or GC. |

I don't have the time to take 5 hours off of work right now, between work and school 5 hours is a bit much.
Although my closest L&M is 40mins away, I'm wondering what their financing policy is like. If I could possibly finance an amp from them until I pay it off. Though part of the money I make from the potential sale o my amp would go towards a Christmas gift for my girlfriend. EDIT: If I sell this amp for $960, I can finance an Orange TH30 from L&M. The TH30 is only $1158.25 with taxes, I could finance it for like $40 a month or something like that. I'm so stupid, good lord. I should have just stated that financing was an option earlier. I forgot that I could finance things from L&M.

Out of most of the amps suggested this week, would the TH30 be my best choice?

The TH30s are pretty sweet, I don't think they'd be your "best" option, but a good one. You should look into a Peavey Ultra Plus as well. I had one and I play pretty much exactly what you play, and it sounded great for it. Sold it to fund a guitar build, huge mistake.
Also, if you can score a Laney GH, VH, or Ironheart, that would work absolutely perfectly. Total Marshall killers. They do what Marshall does better than a Marshall. |

I'm not really a fan of the Ultra's tone. I don't know why, but it sounds far too similar to my 6505+. But, maybe that's just me.
I've narrowed it down to a TH30, JCM 900 or 2000DSL, or the Iron Heart Got an offer for a JSX. I think if I can't sell it (already in the process of making a deal, waiting for some conformation on things) I might take the JSX

If you want a JSX, there's a slight chance I might be interested in a straight up trade. No promises so don't settle on it, I need to think about it some more. There's things I like and dislike about both.

You live in California right? The shipping on that would be insane for me.
Someone from the area offered me his JSX for my 6505+. Straight trade. I'm thinking I'll take the trade. It covers basically every tone I want to use, and the bult in noise gate is a bonus too, although i've heard mixed reviews about it. Any comments about the noise gate? I've also been considering getting a delay or reverb pedal as well.

Do it. JSX's can be bright. But with a correct tube swap it can tame it down. Theyre very versatile amps

The noise gate doesn't do a whole lot, but on the other hand the JSX doesn't make a whole lot of noise in the first place.
The noise level will be night and day from your 6505, regardless of the built in noise gate. That's one of the pros/cons I'm having trouble dealing with.

You can basically ignore anything said in that post. I'm hopefully getting a JSX

Personally I would never finance an amp or anything for that matter that was not a necessity (ie. a car, or home) |

Why not?
It's better t finance it and pay a little bit a month until it's paid offer, rather than drop $1k+ on it and miss out on bils for the month.

My philosophy.... If you need to finance it, then you can't afford it. If you are at risk of not making your bills if you pay it in cash, then you can't afford it. If you can't afford it, then hold off or buy something that you can afford. Just my $0.02. I financed my car and I financed my house and education because those were necessities and investments. A guitar or amplifier? Not so much. |
