Soldano Hot Rod 25 watt anniversary amp...

if there has already been a thread, then ignore this one and let it die. the amp has been out for a while. search bar didn't come up with any similar threads...

i thought this was interesting.

It’s Silver Anniversary time! Yep, that’s right – on April 1st, 2012 Soldano Custom Amplification turned 25, celebrating a quarter century of building the world’s finest guitar amplifiers. To commemorate this occasion, we are pleased to introduce the SOLDANO HOT ROD 25. Just like the HOT ROD 50 PLUS and HOT ROD 100 PLUS, the preamp circuitry of the HOT ROD 25 is based on the legendary SOLDANO 100w SUPER LEAD OVERDRIVE. It has a unique power section which utilizes two 5881 power tubes and a filter choke in the power supply – two features usually found only in higher powered amps – that enable this compact little 25 watt head to deliver much tighter bass and punchier low end than most other amps in its class.

The HOT ROD 25 also features a tube-buffered, post master volume effects loop and effortless channel switching via foot switch between the Normal and Overdrive Channels. There are independent Preamp gain and Master Volume controls for each channel. Bass, Middle, Treble, and Presence controls provide the tone shaping. A rotary Impedance selector switch allows for the use of 4, 8, or 16 ohm speaker cabinets.

MSRP $2,650
Power: 25 watts
Two Channel Head with Tube Buffered Effects Loop
Weight: 29 lbs.
Size: 8.5″H x 17.5″W x 9.5″D
Preamp Tubes: Five 12AX7 / ECC83
Power Tubes: Two 5881 / 6L6

seems legit.

thoughts?

I think BCM is selling them for just over $2k. Still more than I'd pay but I'd guess they'll be selling for sub $1k relatively soon. Would buy for that price. Like I said earlier in WTLT though, I have a hard time paying that much for an amp that small which would only ever get used at home. I'm sure it sounds pretty good though.

at sub $1k i'd be interested.

at the $1000-1200 you can score a used HR50 and at the "just over $2k" mark you're in used SLO range.

Yup. $2500 for that fully loaded SLO I'm getting. Which is less than that ones MSRP and a bit more than street. And that thing will slay in just about any situation. I just hope the prices don't stay high since it's an "anniversary" amp.

So, it's kinda like the JCA50H (by Soldano) but 25Watt, 4 times the price because it's Soldano circuits and fabrication... Nah, I wouldn't buy for less than a grand.

Or a nice HR100 Plus.

Still ... probably a killer amp.

2 5881's at 25w? Now why couldn't that have been done with the JCA22h instead of EL84's? That would suit the amp so much better. EL84's do not belong in hi-gain heads. At all.

Considering the price though I think it would still be more worth it to pick up a used Hot Rod 100. Higher wattage sounds better with Soldano-esqe distortion IMO.

So is this similar to the amp riffhog had Mike make for him but in a head form factor?

Yep - it is interesting and I'd love to play one some day but that is about it.

no that was a astroverb (el84 amp) with an extra tube stolen from the reverb which was eliminated.

Ya, I think the normal HR was discontinued a year or two ago but I'm not 100% on that.

When are you getting your SLO? I haven't moved Min's placement of the logo because of the mojo.

Dunno. The guy I'm buying it off of is in Long Island and works on the power grid. He wanted to wait until after all of this was cleared up for me to send the money in case something happened to it or he couldn't get time to ship it.

I like this man.

I have never read an explanation why Gary switched from SLO's to DSL's. My guess is that it was part of some sponsorship deal.
