Step 1:make a backing track in Gp/power tab/TuxGuitar in the desired key/scale (it doesnt have to be amazing)
Step 2: play along with improvisation

"maintenance practice" isn't the issue here. "modes" is. if you're bringing them up i can pretty much guarantee you that you have no idea what they are. no, they are not positions on a fretboard. i advise you to think about what you know a little more before dispensing advice. i'm sick of every thread turning into a mode thread in MT, so let's stop it here.

i said it before, and i'll say it again. you practice your scales by making music with them. learn them inside and out. sing them. internalize the sound. if i take your instrument away from you and you can't somehow make the scale, you don't really know it. you need to achieve that level of understanding.

Yeah yeah. You can actually hear the notes a lot better as well.
