I always call it "making your guitar breathe." If you listen to the solo in "Wet Sand" he does it. I'm sure he does it in other songs, but I can't htink of any right now. It's like the noise he makes in between notes and it sounds as if someone is gasping for air or something... Does anyone know how to do it?

i can do that solo lots of muff and ds-2 loads of bend and slight wah.And play every note as if it's your last.

It's not really a note though. It sounds like its just a bunch of string noise but it's not feedback. I've accidently done it before but I didn't know what I did... I'll try and find a video or something so you know what I'm tlaking about.

When you're listening to the song, right before the solo when Anthony is screaming "YEAH!" John gets some feedback and immediately after the feedback, he makes the "breathing noise" I'm talking about. And then right at about 4:43 right before he goes up to a really high note he makes the sound again.

It happens in like a fraction of a second, so it could be anything.

It prob just random unfretted string noise that you get when switching in between chords or notes. Or just some random sound he gets when slideing his fingers up or down the strings.


The thread title cracks me up..John Frusciante technique....it's an oxymoron.

Funny, I only see one moron here. John used to practice for 10+ hours a day. Sure he lost some skill during his addiction and recovery period but just because someone doesn't show it doesn't mean it isn't there. BTW he went to Musicians Institute and was going to try out for Frank Zappa's orchestra. The balls alone to do that connote some skill.

That's up there with th most ignorant statements I've heard on this forum... it's clear you know nothing at all about John, his past, his present.... he's in my opinion(and many others)one of the most technically skilled guitarists out there.... definately top 10... and he's also one of the most mature and open minded music writers out there. You should rethink that statement....

edit: actually... not in my opinion, actually as a fact... he is among the most technically skilled guitarists alive

Yea, sure... he's real technical.

I'll give him this....he is a great song writer.

I have quite a few instructional things at home with him giving lessons on his "technique". What a ****ing joke. I have never heard so many mistakes in one "lesson" from the teacher.

And so what if he tried out for Zappa plays Zappa....I guarantee he didn't make it becuase 1.he is sloppy, 2. all his improve stuff is always played in straight 8th notes and always in the blues box. I've seen Zappa plays Zappa twice now and I know he could never play that kind of music. At least not without a lot of help from the others in the band.

I've been listening to the RHCP since 94 so I know what he is capable of...and technical guitar stuff is not something he is very capable of. And I have heard a lot of his solo work as my buddie loves his music. Like I said..good song writer..not so great technique.

If his is in your top 10 then you must not listen to a wide variety of music.

Find me a video of him playing something really great without messing up and i will retract my statements.

Doesn't matter what Zappa band it was....fact is he didn't make the band.

Anyone have any fcatual evidence as to why he didn't make the band?
