Trouble with transcription...
Hi all,
I'm trying to transcribe Disturbed's "Indestructible" to standard notation. The song is tuned to drop C, and I'm trying to write it in C Minor. I'm slightly confused as to where the low C and Bb sit on the staff. Treble clef. Any insight? Thanks in advance. |

Low E in standard tuning is the space below the third ledger line below the staff. C below that would be two steps down, or the space below the fourth ledger line below the staff.

That C would be in the fifth space below the staff (pictured). I would just write it an octave up and indicate that it's sounding an octave down.

cello music uses multiple staves. if you are play with spn of :
C1 F2 Bb2 Eb3 G3 C4 then you will find the bass clef works from C1 - C3 the treble clef from C3 -C5 then the Treble^8 clef from C5 (12fret stuff) upwards also octavia lines are your friends. you might want to double check my advice !

don't worry, i'm here to double check it for you. i don't think you're going to have much fun writing a C3 on a treble clef staff - you'd need an assload of ledger lines. it's pretty much to the point that it's not even practical to read. my point, of course, being that your scientific pitch notation is an octave lower than it should be - middle C is C4, not C3 -- and the low range of a cello is C2 (as would be the concert pitch of the low C on a guitar), not C1.

Aeolian wolf , would you say a bass clef (no 8 underneath !) would be best up to say 5th fret ( f4 ? )
also please could you clarify ... standard tuning : E2 A2 D3 G3 B3 E4 drop C tuning for a 7 string guitar : C2 F2 Bb2 Eb3 G3 C4 thanks. p.s my thoughts are with the big apple during this difficult time . thank you .

Ya, guitarists tend to get confused, since guitar music is notated an octave up. C4 is the 1st fret on your B string, not the 2nd fret on your A string.
