ENGL amps

One of my firend talked me about ENGL amps, I checked review, checked videos on youtube, and everyone is saying they are wonderfull amps. I tried a cupple of them and they are. Before buying one, is there anything bad you head about?

some people think they sound a bit "processed" for want of a better word. And some (e.g. the older 60 watt fireball, arguably the powerball too) are sorta one-trick ponies. that being said, the versatile ones are really, really versatile. EDIT: there's also talk, on occasion, of some of the models not cutting through in a live setting.

They sound so awesome, you may never be able to play anything else. That could be an issue if you lose your job.

I agree.

The ENGL that I REALLY love though is the E530 preamp, does all sorts of metal right, and in a very organic way.

But yeah, shit's expensive.

I haven't mixed a band or heard one play live using an ENGL that could cut through on stage.

There's that whole "can't cut through a mix" business. I know nothing about that or if it's true or bullshit, but I've read about it in more than one place.

I have the V1 Powerball and its really versatile. Keeping in mind i have a formidable pedalboard to assist that, but theyre stellar amps. Scored a used one for $1350.

I know that they are expensive, but at a small shop near where I live, he sells them at a very good price

I played a friend's E670 for about 2 hours in band practice and it gave me GAS. The feel reminded me of the RoadKing II with a better top Mid. It cuts. The Herbert is tougher to dial.

Then the bands you mix need to learn how to EQ properly...

All the ENGL I have played cut like a ****ing knife if you do it properly. They just need mids to be a bit higher than usual, as opposed to the usual "0" for uber br00tz metal.

The Steve Morse I had is probably the best amp I have ever used.

yeah the SE is up there with my favourite amps ever

only problem was the price- you could get two to three killer amps for the same price.

as far as i'm concerned its people being an idiot about EQ'ing

i've played loads of amps that apparently don't cut through the mix in a band situation and theres nothing wrong with them. You need to get the mids in the right place, same with most amps, and ENGLs don't have THAT much in the mid range anyway in comparison to other amps.

on topic for TS ENGL make some great amps, the SE is still one of my favourite amps out there. Which model are you looking at in particular?? If you liked the one you played and it does all you need it to then i say go for it

Then they can't setup their amps. I've used 3 different engls live and they all cut just fine. 60W fireball has mids at 10, but it cuts fine. Savage and e530 both cut through with any mid setting.

Right now me and the other guitarist are now using engl's (mostly) and have no issues with guitars cutting.

I've heard a bunch of them but haven't played one myself. That's why I used "but". I could definitely be wrong.
