3: what about "classic" rock humbucker tones, like AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, Nirvana and all the usual humbucker stuff? Or even Zeppelin (just curiosity, for most of this stuff I have the EC-1000). Does it manage well or is it just a fierce and brutal SOB?

for now, that's all! thanks

1. I'm actually not sure how many pieces it is and don't have the guitar with me right now... I'll try to check this tomorrow.

2. Not at all, I mean, like someone said, Corgan himself uses the signature pickups for almost everything including Gish, Siamese Dream, Mellon Collie songs nowadays. It has more to do with the amp.

3. Without hesitation, I'll testify that it will do all rock well. Heck I play that 90% of the time. Actually the BC pickups have slightly less output than the Dimarzios they're based on (Tone Zone and Air NOrton), though the magnets are ceramic instead of Alnico... . They respond greatly to the guitar volume pot too, if you wanna clean up that way or play around with different shades of dirt. It's not like the BC1 is a super high gain monster like the X2N which really only does one thing well.

Buy it dude. You will not regret-its an instrument of its own caliber. And even if you wont like it, those are great parts...neck,hardtail body, good electronics. And since its out of production it can become colectible...

Isn't a heavier body a disadvantage? Or is it made from a heavier type of wood?

The heavier body is there to give a fuller tone and more sustain, I guess.

Lighter wood of the same species is usually determined as "better"

The wood is the same used in other American made Fenders but they call the guitar heavier because there is no tremolo cavity; thus there is more wood than in your average Strat which might make one think it is heavier. Well actually it really is not. But still the wood's the same as in other Strats, and there's more of it in this guitar.

Overall though it still is a light guitar.

Too bad Fender Italy was not talking about a guitar they already have (they have none in stock), but about the last guitar the italian division will get from the U.S., so I won't see it until early january

The one and only is black! I wouldn't have wanted it white, since I have my American Standard in white!

Say that again and I'll beat you. Yeah I have the black one davidrf, when I got mine they also did not have white ones left so apparently that color is far more popular.

I first wanted to buy this guitar two years ago, then I got a Les Paul Studio (sold) and the American Special. I wanted it WHITE I guess it's more appealing in white, but the black one has its appeal too. I'd like to see it with a black pickguard with white borders, white knobs and pickups cover. Kinda like an evil cousin of the Gilmour Black Strat Corgan himself played a Strat with this color combination, in the middle '90s.

Gosh that would be a killer combination. Might just try it out sometime. One great thing about Strats is that they're quite easy to mod.

All white and all black strats are amazing looking. I'd change the pickguard definitely if I had to have a black and white one. I dunno why but I just don't dig the black and white strat.

All black with some red trim around the pickguard is the way forward.
