Skyfall
Saw Skyfall last night, what did you guys think of it?
I thought it was a good movie but it just didn't have that James Bond feel to it. There were a couple moments where I felt like it was a classic Bond film, but at some parts it just felt like a 2000's action movie rather than 007. Overall, I thought it was a good movie, and the new actors have put the characters in place to keep the franchise going. So what are your opinions on it? |

I think it's the best Bond for a long time.

I loved it
Really reminded me of The Dark Knight at parts. Just the way it was shot sometimes |

Ignoring Casino Royale, it's probably the best James Bond film ever. Craig is easily the best Bond. Most people's issues is the fact the message of the film went completely over their head. They're reinventing what the "James Bond" feel is, and that was the point. They've surely learned that when you put competent directors and DP's in charge of a film, you get very good results. No more shitty people calling the shots.

Liked it a lot (although the Adele is pretty half-arsed, especially the chorus 'all together' bollocks), good mix of traditional Bond, the kind of Bourne-esque newer Bond and a tiny bit of le Carre style espionage psychology.
All very good but it's going to be harder and harder to keep the series this consistently good, mainly because the Craig Bond films have all been about digging up his past and emotional wounds and then how he moves past them and gets a bit more detached and insular. The reason there are so many older Bonds is because the story was 'crazy villain steals something, bond goes in to get it back, ****s some girls, kills guy, goes home', which never needed any emotional involvement.

That's what I was thinking. I felt like I could have done without the entire scene where they went to the big house. Would have been perfectly fine if Silver shot M right there in the courtroom, imo. Also, I thought the opening credit sequence was phenomenal the way they used Adele's song. It actually made me like the song.

That whole part where M is reading the poem and it keeps cutting to Silver as he takes out the guards felt like it was from TDK I loved it. I really liked the house part. I thought the setting and how it kept getting darker was really cool and well shot. |

I also saw it last night. It was pretty good and totally worth $7. I liked how they brought back some characters.
The Adele song was a big disappointment and really not that great. |

A 'classic Bond film' would bomb nowadays. The series had to evolve to survive.

I didn't like the whole house scene either, it just seemed way too violent for a Bond vs. Villian showdown. In past movies he would have used some Q gadget to cleverly kill the villian, but this time he's blazing with automatic weapons and such. It just had a different feel, much like WCPhils said, more like the gritty rough Dark Knight version of James Bond rather than the classy, cool, suave Bond that I grew up watching.
However, Javier Bardem is by far the best Bond villain I have seen in a long welcome. Last edited by Apollo1449 : 11-11-2012 at 12:56 PM. |

Slightly off topic to the actual film; I've seen movies on opening weekend before, but it was never like this. They had two separate lines waiting to get in the theater, plus we got there half an hour early and most of the seats were already reserved.

What about action films?
It's more like the A-Team than Tinker Tailor.

They should stop calling them Bond films and just admit it's something else entirely.

It should have "died" and just been a classic film series.
