You use the scale over whatever key the progression is in. That's it. To figure out the key, you need ear training, although hearing where home, the tonic note and chord is should be obvious.

You should be able to recognize that without studying theory, cuz it's your ear's natural instinct to hear it as home. If you can't do that, then you must study theory from square one to understand harmonic principles.

You're monotonous because of your phrasing. That's why I'm telling you to transcribe.

he's getting both an 18 and an 8. the 8's gonna be in the next few months, i think the 18 will be further down the line.

you have to realize though that he was an amateur rugby player and is absolutely huge, so even the 12 string looks pretty natural in pictures

Maybe Hail, you can explain to me why people want these HUGE extended ranges on their basses.... For the life of me, Ive never been able to figure it out. Im fine with four, and got my fiver because I was sick of changing tunings three or four times a week for different bands..... Also because its awesome.

crisp high end for melodic and chordal work

i do a lot of bassline + chord tapping even on my 4 and it can get quite muddy without that extra handful of strings and i'm heavily leaning towards a 7 string, or at least a 6

In my less than expert opinion, after 6 strings it stops becoming a bass... I agree though, the access to more chordal options would be nice, but still.... .gotta love me four string (Secretly, I mean my five string, but since Im arguing against more than 6, I should probably avoid saying that I love my five string... Shit.)

Is there an equivalent bass to the 12-string guitar (8 strings strung in 4 courses / 10 strings strung in 8 courses, &c.)? Not that I'll be buying one for I am a guitar player. And also I'm skint. Although the hammer dulcimer and autoharp I've been looking at look great. But never mind that ... is there such a thing or not?

i think scott's 18 string is gonna be a 6x3, but i honestly can't remember for the life of me if that's accurate or not

i know there's 8 strings with octaves but they sound like shit/video game noise. but then again so do 12 string guitars lol

if it's not a bass after so many strings, maybe i just don't like bass. scott does a hell of a lot of his music on his 4, though, and i have a custom 4 J so maybe i'm multi-talented. #weavegame
