I'm open to playing a strat. I just visually prefer the quirkier looks of some thing like a Jaguar. The new Yamaha Pacificas with the Humbucker and P-90 combo look awesome to. I have played Pacificas before and love the playability.

Well to be fair half the influences he listed are strat players and he said he didn't like pauls. I'd say get a fat strat, personally.

But they have used guitars other than Gibsons on occasion...

Fat strats are the most boring guitars in the world, the whole thing that makes strats cool is the single coil quack.

doesn't matter if it suits what he wants to play more
plus you can still get the neck + middle tone I mean, i agree, if you want authentic strat tones you want SSS. But if you want to be able to get most strat tones but have a lot more versatility, HSS is a good call.

From your influences I would say get a Strat, but if you've tried and really enjoyed the pawn shop mustang then get that. Everybody is different and thats why there's so many different guitars. Have fun looking around.

Wasting oh ...a couple weekends running around guitar shops and a pawn shops playing everything that isn't pegged down... ....sounds like torture I got to cheat when I was first starting out. My lead guitarist owned a second-hand guitar shop. I got to basically sit there and **** around with everything that came in AND it was great rehearsal space, because there isn't anyone to bitch about the racket in a strip mall at 11pm. |

Takes some digging but if you live near anywhere with a lot of musicians or universities there are gems to be had, and be had cheap. I got my BC Rich in one, in like 1996, I still have it. |

I'd suggest trying out more les pauls, they can vary massively, just like any other guitar.

I have thought this to. I like the look of the 70's Tribute with the slimmer neck and mini humbuckers.

look into SG's too. i play one of mine from blues here and there. its a little brighter tonally than the LP which i play nearly all the time.
strats are fine, but i do agree that if you want the strat sound you would likely be best SSS. thats just what i think though. ![]()

Derek Trucks thinks SGs are good for blues-rock, too, and he's an alright guitarist...
