i've had the same strings for the past year or so on my bass, and i've been constantly tuning up and down on them from E to A to B and all that, but recently i've noticed i have a lot of buzzing in my frets. not sure if this is a truss rod problem or a string problem, but i think a string change could probably improve this? thanks in advance.

where do you live? the temp is changing pretty fast in some areas and can cause your neck to bow.
1 yr is a long time for strings though.

well i've had the same problem for a while now, so it might not be a temp thing. it was the same way in the summer as it is now in the fall and was last winter.

Press the low E on the 1st fret and the last fret. How much space do you have in between the bottom of the string and the top of the 12th fret?you should beable to slide a .70 pick inbetween it. If not you need to adjust the neck relif.

But deff get some new strings first.

i'll tell u one thing: when i press down the last fret and then press on the 1st fret, it doesn't make any difference than if i didn't press down the 1st fret.. oh and i can't slide a pick into it without it having to bend up. definitely must be a truss rod thing?

it would sound like it yeah, have you adjusted the action at all lately?
if you aren't sure how to sort out a truss rod, though there are a whole load of tutorials and similar online, maybe go to someone who knows what they're doing so you aren't risking your bass getting damaged
that being said, it isn't difficult to do.

I would say adgust the truss rod a bit. When you do this you need to lossen all the strings, then turn the truss rod no more than 1/2 turn at a time. after each time tune back up and check tha 1st and last fret method. You should have a little bow in the neck to stop the fret buzz.

Holy shit a years a long time. I'd say buy new strings. I change my strings every 3-4 weeks minimum, if I don't buy new ones just to change the tuning I'm using.
Besides that, you probably need to adjust your neck.

gonna go tomorrow to get a new wrench for my truss rod as well as a new set of strings, then. the truss rod is definitely the problem and the strings could be adding to it.

I agree with these... Just turn the truss rod 1/4 of a turn to add relief to the neck. If i'm not wrong it would be counter-clockwise.

Just turn it a bit and see if you get any fret buzz. I just adjusted mine, had some fretbuzz on the two or three lowest frets. 1/2 turn was enough to get rid of it.

And why is everybody saying "you can damage the instrument"? I mean, it's easy to adjust the truss rod and you won't damage it unless you turn it too much. Just be careful with your adjustments.
