Is the guitar neck bound?

Hey Guys,

Selling of my Gibson Explorer '82 and I have been asked a question I have no idea how to answer!

Is the neck of my explorer bound? What does this mean and how do I check??

Cheers,

it is cosmetic, but i have heard it is also about 'protecting' the edges of a body or neck (as the edges are more likely to make contact than the flat parts). the idea is if you ding or mangle the binding then you can replace it with new binding.

really, this can just be considered an extension of aesthetic as binding is not going to protect the guitar from any real damage (just cosmetic damage).
