Hi. So we're performing this song on sunday, but we only recently got a new electric guitarist that can play chords well, but he's not too good with learning solos. He's still working on it, but he said he's prefer to not do any solo-ing yet.
I was thinking to fill in that empty gap, I could fill in something with the bass. It's only an electric guitarist, drummer, bassist, and an acoustic guitarist so I don't think something too crazy would be appropriate.

The key is in D (D, A, Bm, G).

I'm not too good with my scales (still learning). If anyone could help me, I would appreciate it very much.

Just play within the D major scale, you should be find

either this, or figure out the triads for the chords and play those along to the chord progression.


Also, take a tip from Victor Wooten and make sure you groove during your solo.

Ah man, I hate how people at christian concerts act like their on Jesus acid or something.

Anyway, just make sure its got a groove. Don't just play a guitar solo, because you don't play guitar. You have to keep the groove going.
edit: ^Ha! Thats exactly what I was thinking of.

Just make some noise and stay in key, even a shitty bass solo sounds awesome if its confident. A good bass solo that comes right out of nowhere is in a song called 'Naked in the Rain' by the Chili Peps, check it out and good luck !

I just played it, that sounds really good. You could play that through the whole song and not even worry about a solo.

Think of the bass as glue that holds the sound of the band together. Too much glue, and it'll never dry, too little and it'll never hold.
