Second Guitar
Hey!
I'm getting my second guitar for Christmas (hopefully)... Anyway, does anyone know any good guitars for drop tunings (C standard would be the lowest I'd be going)? I'd be playing mainly hard rock, some punk and grunge too. I want to avoid the big brands if I can to save money, but obviously I don't want to buy a donkey either, so if I REALLY do have to go for the big brands I will... Thanks ![]() |

For you, a 7 string or a baritone. Can't suggest anything though. Need a budget.

A 7 string for C Standard??? Unless he tunes to G standard, no. OT: Go out to a guitar store, look at ALL the guitars in your budget, and play them. Find the one that just FEELS perfect? There you go.

The guitar shop's in my area are RIDICULOUS. Tuning to drop D is against the rules.

That really shouldn't change anything... a guitar's tuning has nothing to do with its feel. Really, go try them. If there's one that clicks, there you go. Then you can buy it, slap new strings on, tune down, ???, bitches/profit.

I think the idea that you don't need to drop tune a 7 string because it's already there. But he could get a 27" scale 7 string and tune it to drop G standard as well, but I'd consider that to be overkill myself. |

He said he'd not go lower than C Standard, so a 7 string for that is.... pointless.

Any idea how a HSS Mexican Strat would hold up? I'd like some versatility..

This. Having played C standard for years, I find it a bit pointless. A 7 string would give you more. That's just how I see it. Disagree all you want. ![]()

It'd be fine. The tremolo would need adjusting with the thick strings and low tuning, but after it's all setup and good, should be fine. Might want a pickup change too if you really want the br00tz.

If you are going to change tunnings often DO NOT GET A TREMELO equiped guitar get a hard-tail/Stop tail.

Or he could and just deal with annoyance of the tremolo.

Seeing as it is his 2nd guitar I doubt he has taken this into consideration. ![]()

I've had to deal with a bendy neck on my G-400 for the past 3 years, I think I'm ready for anything

That's.... the spirit. I think. The tremolo frustration is just time consuming. If you're patient, then it's fine.

You can set a strat trem up for dive only simply by adding another spring and tightening the trem claw a bit. Then changing tunings is a breeze.
Also, playing a 7 string in B standard is not the same as playing a 6 string in drop C. |
