[NPD] Two pedals a day keep the doctor away!
Or close. Especially if that doctor is a Dr. Boogey:
![]() ![]() ![]() The Dr. Boogey DIY distortion pedal is a project that i started a few months back with the help of a couple of friends (thanks, Marco and Daniel). It's based on the gaussmarkov layout. It's finally ready, and it sounds AWESOME. It delivers a powerful distortion, extremely tweakable thanks to the 3-band EQ and "Presence" knob, and it's not noisy at all. What a great distortion pedal. I think it blows most high-gain distortion pedals out of the water, and gives the others a run for their money. It's not an easy DIY for beginners, but it's definitely worth making IMHO. Here's the build thread, in case you want to check out its development process, trials and tribulations, and lots of more pictures, including gutshots: CLICKY HERE! Also, i returned home to find that the mailman delivered a mysterious package from China... What could it be? ![]() Nice! A Mooer Audio ShimVerb! ![]() Very securely packaged... ![]() It came with an instruction sheet and a "Mooer" sticker. I bought it online at Marcmart. It retails for $88.00, but a friend told me a promotional code... So i grabbed it for $44.00 with free shipping, which is 34 €uros here, a steal! I got very lucky, and it only took 8 days to get from China to my doorstep, in Portugal, by regular mail. For starters, it looks great. Period. It's not that kind of "made-in-China-junk" that we were used to, it actually feels well built, solid and reliable. It has a small metal enclosure, with a very nice matte grey finish. Industry-standard switches and knobs, true bypass. And the blue LED is a cool detail. ![]() ![]() I haven't opened the bottom lid yet, but i may post gutshots later if anyone wants me to. Soundwise, it's a pretty nice reverb. It's as straightforward as it gets; the "Level" knob controls the mix between the dry (guitar) and wet (reverb) signals, the "Color" knob acts much like you would expect from an ordinary tone knob, and the "Decay" knob controls the reverb decay time. Simple and effective. The "Room" setting is the most useful IMO, since it can range from a very subtle reverb to a huge, cathedral-like, haunting echo. Definitely usable for "everyday reverb applications", if you know what i mean. The "Spring" setting sounds good, but i can't comment on its accuracy as an emulation of an actual analog spring reverb, because i don't have enough experience with spring reverbs to make a comparison. But the "Shimmer" setting is where the real fun starts. Now, i've read many people online complaining that the ShimVerb adds a 5th instead of a full octave like other pedals with "shimmer" settings out there, and that it's garbage because of it. That's nonsense. Does it mean that it's not as usable as those "shimmer" settings? Yes. Does it mean that it's not usable at all? Hell no. It just means that you can't use it for everything. It adds a certain dissonant ambient to what you're playing, and when used correctly, that atmosphere can work beautifully. I especially like playing fast 2 to 5 note arpeggios with a long decay time, so that it kind of starts self-oscillating. Über-awesome. ![]() I'm very happy with these two new additions to my pedalboard. Definitely worth the time and money spent!

Thank you very much! I'm glad that you say that, a lot of time and effort were put into making it. But i had a blast creating this visual design!

I actually went 'ooooh' when I saw that Mesa pedal. I thought it was a genuine Mesa Pedal. That thing looks fantastic!
Incredible build thread too. How much to make me one? ![]()

Thank you everyone. Your feedback got me convinced i made the right aesthetical options.
But the fact is, you can't go wrong with black & chrome. Quote:

Are you guys serious? If you are, i could check with my friends and we could do the math about how much it would cost to build a few more Dr. Boogeys for sale...

I'm actually a little bit tempted, but some clips would be cool
![]() Even if nobody here buys into them, you could find a few people who would be interested.
