I'd imagine a record company would be a lot more professional with the whole situation(or atleast what i've gathered of it). e.g. not sending a contract in the mail.

I'm sure he said that he hasn't sent any money in, but he might just not be admitting to it.
The thing is that he's been playing bass for a little over 6 months.... in South Dakota. There's no reason he (or really anyone else in this entire state) should stand out to someone in a record label.

Why on earth would Adam Levine be sending out contracts? He isn't A&R or legal, he's an artist on the roster. It would be unprofessional for him to be privy to other contracts. And being tutored by the bassist from 3DG? Unlikely, as A&M is part of Universal, and that particular bassist is signed to RCA, a subsidiary of Sony. Highly unlikely that Sony would allow him to work for another label.
