IMO, signing ANY kind of contract of that magnitude and one that would require an actual face to face interaction of the others involved to see how well you would work together, sounds a little fishy.
They want him to be a bassist with a band, playing with other people that HE HAS NEVER MET? Again, sounds a bit odd to me.

So, it turns out my bassist figured out everything was a scam. He didn't want to talk about it at all, and I didn't pry.
