Have never had braces, teeth are okay enough. They aren't perfect, but they don't really impact anything and I'd prefer the current situation over braces or w/e would have to be done to make them "perfect"

I was going to have braces a couple of years ago (when I was 19/20ish), but the orthodontist told me I'd need corrective jaw surgery to reset my overbite before braces would do anything helpful, and I ****ing hate surgery so I said no.
Stuck with wonky teeth now

But I know quite a few people that had them at that age. Never seemed out of place.

I'm currently having some orthodontic work & i'm 20 .

I've got a brace to fix my overbite at the minute. Once you get older your jaw sets and it becomes more difficult to fix it. It could take up to 2 years of wearing this brace for a good 12-14 hours a day. I just wear it when i'm at home though so it's easy enough.

Once i've made some decent headway with that you can get a retainer like one (I.e. it clips in and out) and that will straighten your teeth pretty goddamn well. It'll bring them into line, but not up and down. You don't notice it unless you see a before and after like my orthodontist showed me, but with fixed braces the teeth all end at the same point, making your teeth look perfect.

You can get braces which run along the back of your teeth, but they are apparently an absolute nightmare so dentists hate them. You can also get fixed braces where the brackets are nigh on invisible (not the colourless ones which you see a lot of kids with), so effectively you just have the metal wire on show.

Anyway your best bet is to just speak to an orthodontist about all of this, he'll clear up anything better than the pit can. Not to mention you could get there and say "I want X type of braces" and he could say he doesn't do them. Bare in mind it will cost you a fair penny. Mine are going to cost me £2000-3000, it just comes down to how much you want it.

I'm pretty sure the source that told me that I could get them for free was talking out of their arse. After researching costs I won't be able to afford it. I mean, I could get myself a boob job for around the same price.

It's worth speaking to someone about, i mean they may be able to shoehorn you onto the NHS list (I'm presuming you're english).

Aye I'll still get an appoint with my Dentist (or orthodontist idk) and see what the craic is and what the NHS can do. My teeth aren't that bad though so I'd be suprised if I got preference over most.

I decided to get braces when I was in my early 20's and I'm glad I did. They were on for 2 years and I was fine with that. 2 years for a lifetime of good looking teeth. It was a major confidence booster for me. Do it.

May I ask, why didn't/couldn't you get braces when you were younger? my teeth were awful, i had braces from age 9-17.

I had braces until I was almost 19. Yeah it may seem like a big deal, but having nice teeth later in your life will be worth it.
