LTD EC-1000 vs LTD Gus-600EC
Hey guys,
I've been playing for quite a while now on my esp m-ii and as I joined a guitar band changing tunes has become a nessesity. A nessesity which for floyd rose owners is a bit of a nightmare what made me think about getting a hardtail bridge guitar with a bit of a bigger punch. I automatically started looking at LTD EC1000 series, but then I came accross this new Gus G model and since there is not much reviews of it yet on the internet, I'd like to ask you about your opinion on this axe. One of the biggest pros for me is definately the blackout pickups instead of EMGs. I do like playing metal, but It wouldn't hurt to get a bit more versatality from this guitar and duncans seem to be more allround pickups. Also the scale is an interesting thing: they say it's 25,5 inch which is exactly the same as my esp m-ii. Does it mean that it's going to be as comfortable to play as my esp and thus make it completely reliable as a soloing/leading guitar aswell? I' ve tried EC 1000 and frets seem to be a bit cramped on the fretboard compared to my esp and I suppose it would take quite a lot of time to get used to that not to mention increased difficulty of playing any kind of solos on this little thing. however I do not like the rosewood fretboard wood on the neck. Is it possible to replace it with some ebony or maple and if so what could be an average price of such a modification?

In terms of Quality, get the 1000.
The slightly shorter scale length is something you get used to very quickly. As for fingerboard material, you cannot just replace the fingerboard. It's a massive job to completely replace a fingerboard.

the 1000 is a high quality guitar, i have played on one of my friends, and it sounds amazing, and i have no trouble with the frets.

The EC1000 series is pretty slick no doubt. I don't like the scale they have, but I think that with enough practice time on it you should be good.

No, the 600s are MIK.
The Gus-600EC actually has a legitimate difference rather than just slapping his name on a guitar.

I was also sceptical about getting signature model since it's in most cases just the same base model with a cool paintjob and signature that costs another 300-400$ for no apparent reason, but these blackouts instead of EMGs and 25,5 scale seems pretty sensible.
Is it possible to solo comfortably on these 24,75 EC-1000s? In terms of looks EC 1000 seems to be much better looking that Gus G model, especially this one: http://www.google.pl/imgres?imgurl=...Q9QEwAA&dur=225

Yeah, you can solo comfortably on 24.75" scale guitars, it's not like people haven't been doing it for the last 60 years or anything

And how about EMGs vs Blackouts? Does it make a big difference?
I want to play not only metal on this axe. It would be nice if it sounded at least ok with lighter genres such as rock or bluesy stuff. I mean each blackout costs about 200$ in my country which is pretty massive and I want to keep some air and versatility in my sound. I also noticed that gus-600 is a pretty new deal and it hasn't been throuroughly tested yet (even on UG it has only 19 rates compared to over 200 which were given to EC-1000) and I wouldn't like to end up dissapointed :/
