Phrasing practice
A while back I posted about Phrasing and the suggestions helped, I'm a lil better. But I'm wondering about practice.
I'm doing three things that I thin, might help with my Phrasing: 1. Transcribing: I dedicate about an hour a day to this. I'm right now at Andy Timmons' Ghost Of You. 2. Mixing subdivisions: An hour also. I use a paper given to me by Rick Peckham(wonderful Jazz player) on summer. It gives a syllabic counting system: Ta= quarter. Ta Ka= eight Ta Ki Ta= triplet Ta Ka Di Mi= sixteenth and goes on to other. What I do is choose a scale and mix subdivisions while doing sixths, thirds, fourths or whatever. 3. Developing technique: Mostly picking, legato & tapping. I take real consciousness on accenting some notes, creating motives while I use a metronome to develop my chops. I guess I can add jamming to "Endless Rain" by Joe Satriani a lot. So that makes it four? Are these ok? Should I add something to my practice? Remove? |

These two pages used to help me enormously:
http://www.vai.com/martian-love-secrets/ http://www.vai.com/mini-lessons-84/ Especially part two of the first link might be for you. Hope these help!
