Tarbosh/RedDeath9- "Thresholds Collapse" (progressive metal)
Well, I dunno if any of you remember, but RedDeath9 and I posted this big epic collaboration we did called Standing Before the Precipice sometime in 2011. I think it was April or May. Anyway, it was to be part of a concept album of sorts; a bunch of collaborations we would be doing in the future revolving around a central theme of psychological disorder.
We haven't really come up with a story for this one yet and we also don't even know if we're completely finished with the music, but it's been in the works for such a long time now and we really want to share it with you. When we do eventually write the story we had something in mind about a guy using DMT and the song details his experiences. So maybe keep that in mind while listening? I dunno. So, anyway, if you're in the mood for a huge slice of progressive MIDI metal, you've come to the right thread. And it really is huge. Crits very much appreciated, and will be returned.

TOOK YOU ******S LONG ENOUGH :P
Critting as I listen, intro riff is cacophonous awesome. At bar 68-ish, I realized I wasn't hearing any substantive melody, because everything is blending together. Solos aside, it's a mostly harmony-focused piece, which only works because the harmonies are so proggy. The texture at 90 or so is beautiful. I love that section. 139- One of you has got to be a Children of Bodom fan. It can't not be true. Everything is gorgeous, lush and exciting. The solo tradeoff in the 350s (ish) is cool as shit, and further calls CoB to mind. I'm at the end now, and the only complaint I can think to make is that, while themes definitely were present, distinct melodies weren't. Everything kinda melted together, and I personally prefer to have a focused melody to pay direct attention to. Aside from that, it's absolutely stellar. |

Funny you should mention CoB, they pretty much were my gateway into extreme metal. I don't listen to them much anymore, but I'd be surprised if their influence didn't leak out every now and then. I'm way more of an Opeth fanboy than anything. Really glad you like it, man.

Well, if you're goal was to floor us completely so we quit playing guitar and take away your competition, you've succeeded.

So, I listened to this again a while back, and man... I'd say it's finished, with regards to the music. Indeed, we still need to add a story, but ah... WHATEVER. Daniel, we didn't even add a goddamn colour scheme to this one!! WHAT HAPPENED?!
