The fact that you have these on your list impresses me. A lot. All of them are also on my end of year list as well. This is my list of stuff I've kept track of and very much enjoyed, pared down a bit so it's not ridiculous. There's some non-metal stuff too. No particular order (too early for that), although the ones I've enjoyed most tend more toward the top of the list. If These Trees Could Talk – Red Forest Wolfhetan – Was der Tag nicht ahnt Dødsengel – Imperator Enthral – Obtenebrate Der Weg Einer Freiheit – Unstille Darkenhold – Echoes from the Stone Keeper Ne Obliviscaris – Portal of I Spectral Lore – Sentinel Mono – For My Parents Mare Cognitum – An Extraconscious Lucidity Khors – Wisdom of Centuries Weird Fate – The Collapse of All that has Been Skogen – Eld Velnias – RuneEater Essenz – Mundus Numen Wodensthrone – Curse Liam – MMXI Hooded Menace – Effigies of Evil Ahab – The Giant Anhedonist – Netherwards Rome – Hell Money Be’lakor – Of Breath and Bone Raventale – Transcendence Threshold – March of Progress Enslaved – Riitiir Valborg – Nekrodepression Elysian Blaze – Blood Geometry Fortid – Pagan Prophecies Dråpsnatt – Skelepht Deathspell Omega – Drought Angantyr – Forvist Temple – On the Steps of the Temple Galneryus – Angel of Salvation Stoic Dissention - Relinquished Schattenbrandung – I – Apophaenie Sigh – In Somniphobia Oak Pantheon – From a Whisper Ethernal – Arkioas Ulvegr – Арктогея Goodbye Titan – Real Life Awaits Us I've also yet to get to Vinterforest, Finsterforst, or Heimdalls Wacht. All of which could easily make a claim to the list somewhere.

Der Weg einer Freiheit - Unstille
Chthe'ilist - release Absvrdist - Illusory Malignancy - Eugenics Those are the only releases of this year out of the admittedly paltry amount that I've kept up with that I'm still down with. It's odd how ones tastes can change so fast over a few months. Of particular note due to its hypey-ness is that I was impressed by new Cattle Decap but then I realized it's essentially BTBAM reset into "grindcore" circumstance, blergh. Quote:

hahah glad you enjoyed it that muchhaven't listened to much stuff from this year yet, so just off the top of my head - the albums that did make it onto the playlist: Ignivomous - Contragenesis Witchrist - The Grand Tormentor Raven Dark - Гневом Раскрытия Вечности Pseudogod - Deathwomb Catechesis Nebelwerfer - The Aeon of Filth Mgla - With Hearts Towards None Navjarmaahr - Клыки Сиянья Ночи (don't know if it's anyone elses cup of tea here, but I enjoyed it a lot, despite not expecting much) Dordeduh - Dar De Duh (took a few listens to fully grow on me, still a bit fragmented and wandering , but undeniably a monolithe effort) Burzum - Umskiptar (I'm sure plenty will disagree, yet I feel that Varg is one of the few people that remained true to his music-making principles, and despite its shortcomings it managed to hold my attention throughout)

I've basically heard no new metal this year. However, I will nominate Ales Stenar for being tangentially related. Ironically, my only nomination is something that I might have heard when it leaked back in 2011.

This is basically the only material I distinctly remember from recent. There are some good ones on the near horizon though. We'll see how many make it out before year's end. |

Anhedonist - Netherwards
JK Flesh - Posthuman (maybe not technically metal, but its Justin Broadrick so I don't give a fuck, about time dubstep meets metal was done right) Neurosis - Honor Found In Decay Angel Witch - As Above So Below Not really listened to much metal this year, most of the albums I have were pretty uninspiring. From the looks of this thread there's a lot I've missed.

Not too shabby man, taking a year out to focus on music which has been going well. Studying at the premier studio in Scotland where Calvin Harris and shit record, started up a wee label and I might be having my first gig of the new material I'm working on being in support of Alt-J who just won the Mercury Prize (even though they're shite) in a 1000-cap venue, which is mental. How's yerself?

I'm sincerely glad that some of you fellas enjoyed DWEF, because those four releases are the only things which came out this year that quickly come to mind as stuff that I still actually believe in, makes me feel less like an old metalhead codger

Really? I think the kindest thing I could say about it would be that it has it's moments. But for the most part I just found it a bit lacklustre, the energy didn't seem there, it just felt too clinical and the songs didn't seem good enough to overlook the above. Quote:
Are you familiar with Necro Deathmort? I don't know bugger all about dubstep or what stylistic features it has (other than wobs ), but I've heard people suggest that this is essentially dubstep and doom. Last edited by AnnihiSlateR : 12-03-2012 at 08:26 AM. |

On the condition that you're not talking about the 2nd law, that's an extremely good thing. And they have so many fans because they continue to push the boundaries of the metal genre, and their diversity also helps them appeal to some of the more occasional metal-listeners...
