accident now what?
Hi Pit
I recently had an accident where the lid of a manhole (the big round ones) fell on my right hand. The results are that I have lost a part of my middle finger, right hand. I've lost my nail and a piece of my distal phalanx. The doctors say I will still be able to use my distal phalanx. However my middle finger is a bit shorter now. The problem is I was wanting to start playing piano. Will this be a big liability? Thank you in advance Pit.

I can't see it being that big of a deal since you're not really using that finger when you stretch out your hand for chords. I mean you are, but it's length wouldn't affect much.

I get the feeling this is meant to make me google 'distal phalanx'
which is probably some horrifying disease that makes me want to puke.

Probably, unless it was negligence on your part. Why were you lifting a man hole cover?

If the injury is your employers fault, and not supplying the correct tools is definitely their fault, you can make a personal injury claim for compensation, you could get a few thousand for the loss of part of your finger, if you win it will also force your employer to follow the proper guidelines and stop this happening to someone else. It will be easier to get the case going if you're part of a trade union though. (This is in England anyway, not sure about America). Hope you get some compensation!

That sucks dude. As somebody said above me, you should DEFINITELY be claiming some sort of compensation from your employer.

In terms of tge piano most triads you play for chords are thumb, middle and pinky. So it may effect your playing and it would make play 7th chords hard with your right hand. Though the right hand is more for the melody so you dont have to play as many chords with your right as your left hand so you may be able to get away with it. Good luck!

Liability? Yes. Does it make you any less capable? No. Just look at Tony Iommi.
