Should I trade?

I found a bogner alchemist 212 combo on Craigslist and the guy is willing to trade it for my 6505 212 combo AND my meinl 30th anniversary cajon. All together that's about $1500-$1700 of gear at new prices, but it's all used. I play a variety of music from classic rock to modern worship, and some punk and hard rock. Thoughts please.

If I were you, I would just offer the 6505.

The amps seem to be at similar prices used on guitarcenter's website.

i never liked the alchemist.

i wouldn't do it, but then again a don't like 5150's much either.

what is your motivation for selling? changing genre? or different range of tones?

He probably picked up the Alchemist from MF when they were being flogged off for next to nothing. I'd bet he paid far less for his Bogner than you did for the 6505. Don't be a sucka. Straight swap or gtfo.

Nope. Value wise, you'd be getting ripped off.

yeah. they were blowing them out here at one point too, i think. even at the full price i think the 6505 2x12 was worth more. it's just a bad deal- it smacks of those deals where someone is chancing his/her arm. Kind of a fishing expedition to see if they catch anyone foolish enough to agree to the deal.

6505 has more market demand because they are popular, almost a benchmark.

hes going to try to sell the bogner name and that its rare, which still doesnt overrule the fact that its not that popular of an amp for a reason.

still a good amp, but it is NOT like the rest of the bogner line. dont let him act like its a shiva or uberschall. thats like me trying to say my tweaker 40 is an egnater custom shop with the switchable preamps. NO.

also, the bogners were at like 800 for the baseline model and didnt really sell, so hes gonna try to say it retails at 800 above your 6505.

the bogner probably is more versatile though.....

wow

as i said, he's chancing his arm. he's hoping someone has heard that bogners are super-expensive amps and doesn't realise the alchemist, er, isn't.

What's the bet that he picked it up for a song with the expressed intention of profiting once the sale price was over? Now he's trying to cash in on his gamble.
I'd take that bet.

if we all hope hard enough that he doesn't sell it do you think it might jinx him? Gotta be worth a try.

I wouldn't do it in a million years. But I guess I'm biased as I don't like the Alchemist and love the 6505. Keep whichever amp you like more.

Yea, I almost picked one up, but then I realized I would never use it. Best Buy was blowing them out even lower.

I almost picked up a Randall cab for $250 on MF (still is) that lists for $1250. G12T-75s. I don't have room and would just flip it. If CL was any faster I would have gone for it. These days you can go 2 months without an E-mail from a low baller.
