I'm pretty sure water is pretty common. Just not in it's liquid state. I mean: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europa_(moon) And yes; there is the possibility of life forming on these planets. Of course they aren't looking for intelligent life - but single cell organisms and such could definitely exist in such environments. I don't understand how people can't be intrigued by this ![]()

I fucking hate people like you who discourage exploration and discovery and learning just because there's no immediate and obvious application for it. This is a shitty analogy but I bet the first chimp-man to pick up a stick didn't know what he could use it for. He got there in the end, though. |

I just watched Neil Tyson talking about these things.
The five most prevalent chemicals in the universe are: Hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, helium, and carbon Given that H and O are the two most common, it's pretty safe to assume that water exists in a lot more places than people think. And also given that humans are made primarily of H, O, and C, it's pretty safe to assume that life as we have become accustomed to also exists somewhere else in the universe.

Actually, considering that the universe is 75% H and 23% He, it's safe to assume that there's a lot of H & He. ![]() O comes in 3rd or 4th though. Can't remember which. Quote:
Ok, let me put it this way...until we have colonies on Mercury, then the water is useless. I didn't mean to imply that finding water on Mercury is useless, just that they need to figure out what to do next. But you did a good job of raging out over what was basically nothing.

Okay. I quoted him incorrectly. That was still a pretty decent post considering how much I've drank.
But still. Intelligent life is out there. I think this is the video I watched. But even if it's not, watch it anyway. It's Neil ****ing DeGrasse Tyson. edit: Doctor Neil ****ing DeGrasse Tyson
